The VCDC is looking for a Vermillion area individual with a strong record of success, community involvement, and community service. This award recognizes the accomplishments of a Vermillion area individual and his/her contributions to our community. The VCDC is also looking for a family business with a strong record of success, family involvement, community service, multigenerational culture and a positive family business structure. This award recognizes the accomplishments of a Vermillion area family business and their contributions to our community. The VCDC invites you to nominate your choice for one or both awards. The winners will be presented their awards at the Annual Vermillion Area Chamber & Community Awards Banquet on March 20 at Pro's Bar & Grill. Thursday, Feb. 23: Business After Hours and Open House hosted by the Center for Children and Families, 505 Stanford Street, is Thursday, Feb. 23, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Their on-site chef is preparing home-made appetizers and refreshments will be served. Cracker Barrel session with our legislators will be Saturday, Feb. 25, from 10 a.m. to noon at the City Hall Council Chambers at 25 Center Street. Please join us for some great discussion. USD Women vs. IPFW basketball game Monday, Feb. 27, at the DakotaDome. The VCDC will be presenting Coyote basketball cinch bags to USD student-athletes who have achieved perfect 4.0 grades at halftime of the game. The VCDC is once again filling the bags with coupons and/or items from area businesses. Please show your support. Annoucements: USD Libraries are displaying a series of artistic exhibitions exploring skateboard designs, graphic novels and tapestries through May 4. Corroborations 2012, which pairs visual arts students with poetry majors, is in the I.D. Weeks Library second-floor exhibition cases. Tapestry weavings by award-winning south dakota tapestry artist Grete Bodogaard are in the USD Libraries Gallery in the Academic Commons. Getting Graphic by USD Education Librarian Abby Moore is an exhibit of graphic novels on the west side of the 2nd floor of the University Libraries Gallery. SkateCreate is an exhibition of skateboard designs created by students in the first-year seminar class. It's featured in the student gallery on the west side of the second floor. This Week’s Happenings: • Vermillion Rotary Club Meeting, Tuesday, Feb. 21, from 12-1 p.m. in the Freedom Forum Conference Room of the Al Neuharth Media Center. • Spring 2012 Citizens Academy (February-March) The City of Vermillion will be hosting a Citizens Academy in February and March for citizens over the age of 18. This is an exciting opportunity for you to learn more about the city of Vermillion and its government. There will be five weekly sessions followed by graduation. The sessions will be three hours long on Tuesday nights with a halfhour meal break. Class size is limited, so apply today. Description: Overeaters Anonymous is a 12-step program for people with eating disorders and struggles. The group meets every Saturday at 9 a.m. • Fun and games will be held in the Community Room of the Vermillion Public Library on Saturday, Feb. 25, from 1 to 4 p.m. Adults and youth ages 12 and up will play board games and put jigsaw puzzles together.
