CCYTF Board
announces 2012
scholarships recipients
The Clay County Youth
Trust Fund, Inc. Board of
Directors would like to
announce the 2012
scholarship recipients.
The Rosie & Vi Venard
Scholarship was awarded to
Courtney Nussbaum.
Courtney is the daughter of
Jarrod and Karla Nussbaum,
Elk Point. She is attending
Southeast Technical Institute
and majoring in Vascular
Ultrasound.
4-H Scholarships were
awarded to Chesley Cahoon,
Josh Callahan, Pearl Gaidelis
and Dana Nelson.
Chelsey is the daughter of
Barry and Vicky Cahoon of
Beresford and is a 2012
graduate of Beresford High
School. Chelsey plans to
attend South Dakota State
University and major in
Nursing. Josh, a 2012
graduate of Vermillion High,
is the son of Jon and Angie
Callahan. Josh plans to major
in Psychology at the
University of South Dakota.
The daughter of Mike and
Sam Gaidelis, Pearl is a 2012
graduate of Irene-Wakonda.
Pearl will be attending
Northern Michigan University
and plans to study Clinical
Sciences – Medical Pathology.
A 2012 graduate of Vermillion
High School, Dana plans to
attend Kansas State University
to major in Agribusiness.
Dana is the daughter of Greg
and Kim Nelson of
Vermillion.
Recipients of the 2012
Centennial Scholarship were
Kelly Amundson, Melissa
Hessman, Brian Huth, Emily
McClelland, Lauren Mews,
Alexandra Nelson and Krissy
Zalud.
Kelly is the daughter of
Kurt and Peggy Amundson
and a 2012 graduate of
Vermillion High School. Kelly
will be majoring in nursing at
Mount Marty College.
A 2012 graduate of IreneWakonda High, Melissa
Hessman is the daughter of
Doug and Ruth Hessman.
Melissa plans to attend the
University of South Dakota
and major in health sciences
and political science.
Brian Huth, son of Mike
and Sheila Huth, will be
studying agricultural
technology at Mitchell
Technical Institute. Brian is a
2012 graduate of IreneWakonda High School.
Emily McClelland plans to
attend the University of South
Dakota and major in nursing.
She is a 2012 graduate of
Vermillion High and the
daughter of Tim and Cristi
McClelland.
The daughter of Mike and
Mary Mews, Lauren is a 2012
graduate of Irene-Wakonda
High School and plans to
attend the University of Sioux
Falls to major in business.
A 2012 graduate of IreneWakonda, Alexandra Nelson
is the daughter of James and
Peggy Nelson. Alexandra
plans to attend Southeast
Technical Institute and major
in pharmacy technician.
Krissy Zalud, the daughter
of Garreth and Trudy Zalud, is
a 2012 graduate of Vermillion
High. Krissy will be studying
biology/pre-med at the
University of South Dakota.
The Clay County Youth
Trust Fund awards are
presented annually to Clay
County residents and/or Clay
County 4-H members.
Scholarships are funded from

Fund, Inc., a non-profit
organization designed to
provide financial aid to Clay
County youth. It is
administered by a board of
directors comprised of Cathi
Powell, Sharron Jensen, Mike
Carlson, Linda Sorensen, Julie
Fallan, Deb Christensen and
Ray Passick.
Rose and Vi Venard were
the principal founders and
contributors to the fund.
Memorials and gifts to the
fund are tax-exempt. The
board thanks all who donate
each year. This generosity
makes it possible to award so
many Clay County youth help
with their educational needs.
