• SEPT. 22 – Overeaters Anonymous at 9 a.m. Location: Sanford Vermillion Medical Center,
20 S. Plum St., administration entrance just south of the hospital entrance in the board room.
• SEPT. 22 – Vermillion Area Farmers Market 9 a.m.-noon, Ratingen Platz in downtown
Vermillion, Market and Main streets.
• SEPT. 23 – A discussion of the One Book SD selection, “Dammed Indians Revisited : The
Continuing History of the Pick-Sloan Plan and the Missouri River Sioux,” by Michael L.
Lawson, will be held from 3-5 p.m. in the Community Room of the Vermillion Public Library.
Copies of the book are available at the Circulation Desk. Jamie Sullivan, Mount Marty
professor, will be facilitating the discussion. Free.
• SEPT. 24 – International Forum: “Global Warming: The Evidence is In,” at noon in Farber
Hall located in Old Main on the USD campus. Weather fluctuations and other topics will be
taken up by Dr. Moses Ikiugu (School of Health Sciences and a native of Kenya) and Dr. Mark
Sweeney (Earth Science) Moderator: Dr. Benno Wymar (Economics). The event is sponsored
by the (USD) Beacom School of Business and is open to the public at no charge.
• SEPT. 26 – Free Children’s Flu Vaccine Clinic sponsored by Sanford Vermillion from 3:306 p.m. at Vermillion High School Commons. Children ages 6 months-18 years will receive
free vaccine provided by state of South Dakota. Adult vaccines also available: shot ($15);

• SEPT. 26 – Resume Writing and Job Search Assistance from 6-8 p.m. at ID Weeks

• SEPT. 27 – Main Street Center Fall Dinner at 5:30 p.m. at 320 W. Main St. Dinner

Dinner sponsored by Friends of Trinity Lutheran Church of Vermillion with proceeds to
benefit the Main Street Center.
• SEPT. 28 – The Department of Labor and Regulation will be holding a Job Search
Assistance Program (JSAP) at 1024 W. Cherry St. from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The JSAP is
designed to assist and train job seekers on how to find and secure employment. Some of
the topics included are job search and retention skills, networking, the hidden job
market, resumes, applications, and proper interview techniques. It is provided at no
charge and open to the public. Parties interested in attending should register by calling

NOTICE REGARDING
BURNING
IN CLAY COUNTY
Due to the extremely dry conditions the Clay County Board of Commissioners has
passed a Resolution Banning all Open Burning within the County effective
immediately, July 19, 2012 until further notice and would like to remind all
residents as to the pertinent laws regarding burning. South Dakota law provides
that it is a Class 2 misdemeanor for a person to negligently allow a fire to spread.
It is also a Class 2 misdemeanor to burn without giving due caution to the
weather conditions.
In addition to criminal sanctions, a person who negligently causes a fire to be
started or spread is liable for all fire suppression and extinguishments costs.
