Your quick action saved my business from extensive damage. However, there are a few of Vermillion’s ‘finest’ I would not like to thank. To the leader of the Vermillion police department, who instead of asking me for the keys to my office, who instead took a battering ram and broke down the door, who threw my priceless wolverine skin to the floor and proceeded to trample it, who broke my expensive walrus tusk carving (perfectly legal by the way) and who so cavalierly threw my gun collection into a pile I do NOT wish to thank you. Yes, some of my guns are exotic and some of my guns look menacing but ALL of my guns are legal, were purchased legally and are some of my most prized possessions. Some cost a lot of money and some are worthless to everyone except me. Now I have to spend money to fix the scratches and gouges - of the ones that can be fixed. I was sitting across the street with the keys. You knew I was sitting across the street with the keys. Yet you decided to destroy another man’s property. I do not thank you. To the person who collected the ‘baggie with a white powdery substance’ and then proceeded to tell anyone willing to listen about the little baggie, do you ever intend to return my baggy of SALT? Or tell anyone willing to listen that the baggie contained salt? I do not thank you. Did you find a meth lab, or did you find a chemist lab? Did you tell everyone it was a chemist lab, or did you spread the gossipy UNTRUTH? Ask the Lord for forgiveness because HE might, I probably won’t. To the sheriff official who took me in and interrogated me for over an hour while I should have been protecting my business and personal property from the other Vermillion city officials, I do not thank you. To the fire chief who continually enters my building and continually threatens to arrest my clean-up crew, I do not thank you. The structural engineer has deemed the building safe, which you would know first-hand if you had bothered to show up to the meeting arranged for your benefit. By what authority or expertise do you decide to ignore his expert assessment? The federal fire investigator has reported the fire was electrical and accidental - not the work of an arson, so why do you continually decide to let yourself into my building and threaten hard working people just trying to make a living. I do not thank you. To the other businesses in Vermillion who, because of the actions of these fine upstanding officials of this town, are not getting the benefit of my employees buying gas, eating in restaurants, staying in hotels and buying groceries, I say I’m sorry. Please let the officials know that their actions are not helping anyone. To the Vermillion city employees who are and have been trying their best to help me out, I do thank you. I appreciate your effort. To my insurance agent Sherry Stockwell, I do thank you for your professionalism. Also to the code enforcement, you have been very helpful. Shame on you Vermillion for treating a business this way.
