02/24/14 15:54 – Caller
reported her young
daughter had not arrived
home from school and was
missing. Officers started to
search the area and track
down leads. About 20
minutes into the search, the
young daughter was found,
she had gotten on the wrong
bus.
02/24/14 18:23 – Caller
reported that a woman was
making statement on twitter
about not wanting to live,
and believed she may be
suicidal. Officers were able
to track down the twitter
user and found she was
being cared for by family
and professional help.
02/24/14 20:07 – Officers
investigated a one vehicle vs.
light pole accident. The
driver had gone into a slide
on the snow-covered road
and in an attempt to steer
out of the slide and jumped
the curve and hit the light
pole.
02/25/14 01:31 – Officers
attempted to locate the
owners of vehicle parked in
the emergency snow route
because of a snow fall over
2”. Thirteen of the vehicles
were towed when no
responsible party could be
found to remove them.
02/25/14 17:46 – An
officer spoke to a woman
who wanted information
regarding the self-defense
laws in South Dakota. She
made vague accusations that
she may have been assaulted
by a roommate and showed
several injuries she stated
may have been caused by
the assault. Officers
investigated but were unable
to establish what had
occurred.
02/25/14 18:45 – Officers
responded to a report of a 2year-old choking. Highway
Patrol and Officers provided
care for the patient until the
ambulance took over.
02/25/14 21:51 – Officers
responded to a local bar
after receiving a report of an
unconscious man. Officers
provided care until the
ambulance arrived.
02/26/14 20:26 – An
officer stopped a car after
seeing it fail to stop at a stop
sign and travel erratically
between the lanes of travel.
The driver was intoxicated
and was arrested for DWI.
02/27/14 08:15 – While
conducting speed
enforcement in a school
zone, an officer saw a vehicle
traveling 33 mph in a 15
mph school zone. A citation
was issued.
02/27/14 08:19 – An
officer contacted a man who
had requested to speak with
an officer. The man initially
said he did not want to
speak with the officer, but
then complained that
another officer had placed a
tracking device in his skull
and was frequently outside
his home dressed in
camouflage spying on him.
The man then accused the
responding officer of trying
to put a new tracking device
in him. A mental evaluation
was ordered by medical
personnel.
02/27/14 11:41 – An
officer stopped a vehicle
where the driver was using
her phone to send a text.
The driver admitted to the
violation and a citation was
issued.
02/27/14 22:51 – Officers
contacted an elderly man
who was camping outside of
town. The officer was
concerned because of the
extremely low temperatures.
Officers found the funds to
pay for a room at a local
hotel for the man.
02/28/14 10:38 – Officers
assisted the Department of
Motor Vehicles with an
investigation regarding a
duplicate Vehicle
Identification Number on a
vehicle in Vermillion.
02/28/14 19:39 – Officers
investigated a reported sex
crime.
03/01/14 01:07 – Officers
were called to a domestic
argument between an adult
daughter and her mother
over missing change. The
adult daughter was on
probation and was not
allowed to be consuming
alcohol. The Court Services
Officer requested she submit
to a PBT. The daughter
refused and was told she was
under arrest. She fought
with the officer who had to
use pepper spray to get her
to stop fighting. The officer
was also accidentally
exposed to the pepper spray
during the fight. The suspect
was booked for probation
violation, resisting arrest
and failure to obey.
03/01/14 01:14 – Caller
reported two men entered
his home while he was
sleeping and assaulted him.
Investigation revealed the
two men believed the caller
had insulted one of the
men’s sister and had entered
the trailer and confronted
the man. When the caller
told the men to get out of
his home they attacked him.
The two men were arrested
for burglary and aggravated
assault.
03/01/14 08:51 – Caller
reported she believes
another woman is
neglecting her children and
based this information on
some text messages she had
received. Officers followed
up and found nothing to
substantiate the claims.
Under investigation.
03/01/14 10:32 – A
vehicle was towed out of the
emergency snow route when
the responsible party could

03/01/14 10:38 – Officers
responded to a medical
emergency reported to be a
patient suffering from chest
pains. Officers provided
assistance to the ambulance
crew.
03/01/14 10:57 – Officers
were called to deal with a
vehicle in the emergency
snow route. The vehicle
owner was located and cited
and then moved the vehicle.
03/01/14 13:22 – Officers
responded to a vault alarm
at a local bank. The alarm
was set off by a construction
crew using a jackhammer
on a wall adjacent to the
vault.
03/01/14 14:12 – Officers
provided medical care for a
patient suffering from
abdominal pain and
shortness of breath. Care
was turned over to the
ambulance crew.
03/01/14 21:34 – Caller
reported a man was in a
convenience store tearing
the place up. Officers
responded. The man had
left. Investigations showed
the man had gotten angry
because he was refused
service when he tried to
purchase alcohol. The man
threw beer around causing
damage to some windows
and damaged the door when
he left the store. He later was
involved in a traffic accident
and was found in possession
of marijuana and drug
paraphernalia. He was
charged with multiple
offenses.
03/01/14 21:39 – Caller
reported an unknown man
in their back yard who had
also pounded on their back
door. Officer responded and
found evidence that
someone had been in the
yard, but had left. The area
was checked but the suspect
was not located.
03/01/14 21:53 – Officers
responded to a report of a
traffic light at the corner of
University and Main had
been hit and was down. The
vehicle had left the scene.
Deputies assisted and tire
tracks left in the fresh snow
from the down streetlight
were followed to a home
several miles away. A vehicle
with damage consist to the
accident was found. The
driver was later located and
admitted to being in the
accident. The driver had also
been involved in an
argument property damage
call at a local convenience
store just prior to the
accident, and while officer
were investigating they
found marijuana and drug
paraphernalia at the driver’s
home. The driver was
arrested on multiple
charges.
