vehicle was stopped on
Highway 50 and the driver
was notified of a nonfunctioning headlight.
06/09/14 07:47 – A deputy
provided traffic control while
a disabled vehicle was pulled
out of the ditch on University
Road north of Vermillion.
There was no damage to
report.
06/09/14 09:15 – A
deputy responded along
with fire units to a fire
alarm at the L&C Water
Treatment plant north of
Vermillion. The staff there
was testing systems and the
alarm was a false alarm.
06/09/14 13:39 – A
deputy investigated a
report of illegal dumping
south of Vermillion.
06/09/14 18:40 – A
deputy assisted a rural
resident with information
regarding options to deal
with an aggressive barn cat
on her property.
06/09/14 19:48 – A
deputy responded to a car
fire on a rural road. Fire
units also responded but
were unable to reach the
vehicle due to the muddy
road. An accident report
will be completed.
06/10/14 07:05 – A
deputy assisted a
Vermillion police officer
with arresting a man in the
courthouse who was being
held on a court services
detainer.
06/11/14 10:58 – A caller
reported a vehicle was
going east in the
westbound lane of
Highway 50 west of
Vermillion. A deputy
responded but the vehicle
was no longer operating in
the wrong lane and was not
located.
06/11/14 12:32 – A rural
resident reported under
aged juveniles were having
a beer party in a pasture
near Wakonda and caused
damage to the pasture. A
deputy responded and
gathered evidence for an
investigation.
06/11/14 16:53 – A caller
reported a vehicle with
young adults in it who were
possibly intoxicated were
driving from a Union
County boat landing to
Vermillion. A deputy and a
Vermillion police officer
located the vehicle in
Vermillion and cited two
people for underage
consumption.
06/12/14 08:38 – An
inmate wanted for Clay
County charges was
transported from the
Union County Jail to the
Clay County Jail.
06/12/14 09:29 – A
deputy transported a
wanted person from the
Charles Mix County Jail to
the Clay County Jail.
06/13/14 06:36 – A
deputy responded to a
medical emergency east of
Vermillion.
06/13/14 10:01 – A
deputy investigated a
car/deer crash on Highway
50 east of Vermillion.
06/14/14 01:03 – A caller
reported an intoxicated
driver swerving while
driving on rural gravel
roads. A deputy responded
but did not locate the
vehicle in the area it was
seen.
06/14/14 01:30 – A
deputy responded to a
medical emergency at a
rural residence.
06/14/14 08:14 – A
deputy responded to a
critical medical emergency
in Vermillion and assisted
Vermillion police officers
with CPR and the use of an
AED until EMS arrived and
took over care of the
patient.
06/14/14 11:03 – A
vehicle was stopped and the
driver was cited for
speeding on University
Road north of Vermillion.
06/14/14 12:40 –
Deputies mediated a
domestic dispute in
Wakonda. No assault had
occurred and no arrests
were made.
06/14/14 22:50 – A caller
reported a car went into the
ditch on Highway 50 west
of Vermillion. The car
drove back out and drove
away while the caller was
still on the phone. A deputy
responded but found no
reportable accident.

YANKTON – Tickets are
on sale for the third annual
Heartland Humane Society
Taste & Tour in downtown
Vermillion.
The event will take place
from 6:30-10 p.m. on
Saturday, June 28 and will
feature VIP passes to 10
businesses in Vermillion for
food, drink, raffles,
shopping and more.
“We are excited to have
many great businesses
supporting this event,” said
Kerry Hacecky, Executive
Director at Heartland
Humane Society. “All
proceeds will fund our
operating costs for vet care
and animal expenses.”
Tickets are $25 a piece
and can be purchased at the
HHS shelter, Infinite Variety,
The Eagles, or Nook’ N
Cranny in Vermillion. You
can also purchase tickets by

The event will include
stops at Carey’s Bar,
Lumo Studios, Nook’ N
Cranny, Maya Janes,

Wine and beer tasting,
juices and waters,
appetizers, Maki Rolls,
tacos, chili dogs, games, a
book signing by Matthew
Moen and music by
Feather River Band will
all be included in the
event.
