It’s game time!
As Tanagers past and
present come home to
roost amongst all of those
who wear the Vermillion
High School colors of red,
white, and black, they
all end up at one place
on one particular special
weekend: Homecoming.
This year’s event is marked
by another fantastic
group of nominees for
Homecoming King and
Queen and a football team
that has made some serious
noise early this season.
The Tanagers headed into
this weekend with three
games under their belt
including last Friday’s
trip to defending state
champion West Central.
Regardless of that result,
the boys of Vermillion High
came out on fire, winning
their first two games 26-20 against Lennox and
48-0 at Chamberlain - and
earning a ranking of 4th in
Class A.
For this week’s
homecoming the
opposition is Tea Area,
another strong squad out

of a very tough Region 2.
Led by the resurgent play
of senior quarterback
Jack Brown, the passing
game with targets such as
Matt Ouellette, Brandon
Mockler, and Regan Bye
shone throughout the first
two games and head coach
Andy Homan would be
hard pressed to think that
would change anytime
soon.
Brown returned to the
squad after sitting out all
but one drive last year after
breaking his collarbone
early in the game at
Lennox.
The running game showed
some life in the win at
Chamberlain and the
defense has found a way to
keep the other teams out
of the end zone when it
matters.
Friday night at 7 p.m. the
Tanagers and Tea Area will
kick off the festivities...will
it be another big moment
in the evolution of a
growing Vermillion High
heavyweight football team?
We’ll find out soon enough.
