The rain kept the golfers off the course but luncheon and dominoes prevailed. There were 24 ladies present for luncheon and almost everyone stayed for dominoes. The lunch was great and Alex at Cherry Street is our server this summer. Desserts were provided by Dori Ryan and myself (Pat Steckelberg). The rhubarb dessert was delicious Dori. We had a guest our first day.....Jan VonBonn (mother to Nicole Mockler). Thank you for coming Jan. Everyone looks forward to the drawings. Our $5 winners were: Rose Mart and Brenda Chatham. Quarters: Janet Hof, Kathy Prasek, Vaneta Youngworth, Maxine Rogers, Rose Mart, Pat Bergland, and Mary Lea Hennies won twice. Dominoes: There were 4 tables and 24 fun loving ladies today. Rd 1: Rose Mart, Vaneta Youngworth, Mary Lea Hennies, and Sally Gilbertson. Rd 2: Pat Berglund, Dori Ryan, Mary Lea Hennies, and Jan Chapman. Rd 3: Jan VonBonn, Judy Sullivan, Joyce Zimmerman, and Sally Gilbertson. Total score: Pat Berglund, Darlene Engbrecht, Rhoda Grant and Beth Silvano. It was so great to have so many ladies here for the fun, food and games. Hope to see you all (and maybe some more guests) next week. Help the Blood Supply by Donating May 15th Community Blood Bank will be hosting a community blood drive on Friday, May 15 at Sanford Vermillion Medical Center (102 S. Plum St.) from 12 to 5 pm. This blood drive will benefit the local blood supply for Sanford Vermillion. Please consider donating blood at this blood drive. We invite individuals that have donated multiple times as well as those that are donating for the first time. A person can donate blood every 56 days. Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank states, “Community Blood Bank uses 550 units of blood per week to meet the needs of patients within the local area. Donating blood is a very easy way to impact a patient’s life.” Community Blood Bank is the sole provider of blood and blood products for 31 local hospitals including Sanford Vermil- lion, Sanford Medical Center, Avera McKennan Hospital and the V.A. Medical Center. Community Blood Bank is not affiliated with other blood bank organizations and takes pride in being a self-sufficient organization, thanks to the generosity of our local blood donors. Donors must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with a signed donor consent form found at cbblifeblood.org), weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good general health the day of the donation. Please bring an ID with you. It is recommended that you eat and drink plenty of fluids before donating blood. It only takes 30 to 35 minutes to donate with Community Blood Bank. Settles, Winslow Edith Siegrist Scholarship Winners Graesser Named PRIDE Employee of the Month COURTESY PHOTO Shelly Bendert, Outpatient Scheduling/Billing Manager and Kirsten Graesser, April PRIDE Employee of the Month Kirsten Graesser, Registration Clerk, Outpatient Scheduling, was selected as the April 2015 - Sanford Vermillion PRIDE Employee of the Month. She has been employed with Sanford since September 2012. Nominations for Kirsten included the following: Kirsten is always so friendly and helpful when trying to accommodate patient needs. She is always willing to jump in and transport patients to different departments. She has a very bubbly personality and really brightens everyone’s day! She is always willing to find out an answer to a question J&H that someone is unsure about. Kirsten is accurate and timely when it comes to registering the patients. She always has a smile on her face and is a great asset to the hospital. “Kirsten is a valuable asset to the outpatient scheduling department”, comments Shelly Bendert, Outpatient Scheduling/Billing Manager, Sanford Vermillion Medical Center. Kirsten is a native of Brainerd, Minnesota and currently resides in Vermillion with her husband Glenn. They have 2 children Walter and Henry. In Kirsten’s spare time she likes to sew, decorate cakes and spend time with her family. This year’s winners are Teddi Settles and Adam Winslow, who were selected from a talented pool of candidates. Teddi has several academic honors, including Girl’s State and the National Honor Society. She has been active in soccer, dance, and basketball. She has volunteered extensively throughout the school and community. Her teacher noted that Teddi is “ambitious, intuitive, creative, dependable, and above all else respectful of all individuals.” She plans to attend the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, in the SETTLES fall with a focus in pre-pharmacy. Teddi is the daughter of Bill and Desi Settles. Adam is active in wrestling, football and track. His activities include programming club and debate. One of his teachers reports that Adam is very engaged in the learning process, asking questions “that dig deeper into the topic at hand, and brings knowledge from other classes.” Adam plans to attend Dakota State University in the fall in pursuit of a computer science major. Adam is the son of Dana Winslow. Two annual $1,000 scholarships are awarded by the Edith Siegrist Charitable Trust through the Vermillion Public First Group of Four-Year BSN Graduates Receive Diplomas The University of South Dakota’s four-year Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) graduates its first class of students since the four-year BSN program was re-instituted in 2013 by the SD Board of Regents. Fifty-five four-year BSN nursing students will receive their nursing pin on Friday, May 8 at USD nursing campuses in Vermillion and Sioux Falls. Graduation ceremonies are in Vermillion on Saturday, May 9 at the Dakota Dome.
