Plain Talk Staff Reports The Lions Club of Vermillion held its spring pancake feed last week to help raise money that will be used to support local events. Lions President Matt Betzen said internationally, the Lions Club helps support those who are blind, have diabetes and the hearing impaired. Locally, he said support goes toward scholarships that provide glasses for those in need, hearing aids for those in need, the Boy Scouts, the Boys and Girls Club and helps provide funding for camps for children with special needs. “We do a lot of fundraising with our pancake feed,” he said. “I think this time our busiest night was Wednesday when we sold more than 400 tickets, but we fed more than that because children eat free.” In addition to the pancake feed held in April, there will be one in the fall, as well. But, Betzen said the big- gest fundraiser done by the local Lions Club is ushering at USD Football and Basketball games. “We will provide ushers for all of the home events,” he said. “We will raise more than $6,000 doing that throughout the school year.” Betzen said that the local Lions Club, established in 1951, has about 60 members. The Lions meet twice monthly. Their next meeting will be May 7.
