The issue was discovered to be civil. The male party had active warrants out of Lawrence County and was arrested. 7:00 p.m. - A deputy mediated a civil dispute between two rural residents. 10:21 p.m. - A deputy responded to a report of a man standing over the body of another person on Highway 50 near Meckling. The parties were located and it was discovered they were walking home after their car ran out of the gas. The driver was identified and arrested for DUI. MONDAY, MARCH 9 1:20 p.m. - The school resource officer was approached about a student possibly having a gun in his locker at the high school. The student was approached by the deputy and it was discovered that there had been a misunderstanding and that the student did not have a gun at the school. 2:31 p.m. - A deputy responded to a grass fire near a shed west of Vermillion and provided traffic control for the fire department until the fire was extinguished. TUESDAY, MARCH 10 12:38 p.m. - Deputies attempted to locate a suicidal person who the Yankton County Sheriff was searching for and was believed to be in rural Clay County. The man was later found in Yankton County. 1:26 p.m. - A caller reported a dog that runs out to the road from a rural residence when she runs past. A deputy contacted the dog’s owner and notified her of the issue and asked her to try to keep her dog off the road. 5:05 p.m. - A deputy mediated a civil dispute between parties over the care of a dog. The parties eventually agreed on terms for the animal’s care. 5:10 p.m. - A Wakonda woman called to report that she had been received harassing text messages. A deputy contacted the second party and advised her of the complaint and both parties agreed to cease contact between each other. 7:36 p.m. - An inmate was transported from the Clay County Jail to the Yankton County Jail to be placed on a prisoner transport to Lawrence County. The death was determined to be of natural causes. 7:17 a.m. - Deputies transported an inmate from St. Cloud, Minnesota to the Clay County Jail after he was arrested there for a Clay County warrant. 8:51 p.m. - An inmate was transported to the Yankton County Jail to be placed on a transport shuttle to the women’s prison in Pierre after sentencing. FRIDAY, MARCH 13 10:39 a.m. - A deputy responded to a medical emergency in Vermillion and assisted in patient care until the ambulance crew arrived. 1:09 p.m. - A vehicle was stopped and the driver was cited for speeding on University Rd. 1:24 p.m. - Deputies responded to a report of an intoxicated man shooting guns inside his house. The subject was arrested on charges and brought to the Clay County Jail. 1:27 p.m. - A deputy located a harvested cornfield that was on fire. Two men were attempting to put the fire out and the fire department was contacted to assist in extinguishing the flames.
