SHERIFF’S REPORT SUNDAY, NOV. 23 1:50 a.m. - A deputy received a report from the Turner County Sheriff's Office that two minors they had charged with underage consumption claimed they had been drinking at a Wakonda residence. The deputy checked and found no one present at that residence. 9:30 a.m. - A deputy mediated a child custody dispute in Vermillion. 4:11 p.m. - A rural resident reported his dog was shot and injured. A deputy investigated and it is believed a hunter shot the dog but left the area. 5:46 p.m. - A deputy investigated a car/deer accident on Highway 50 west of Vermillion. 6:49 p.m. - A caller reported two vehicles pulled over along highway 50 east of Vermillion. The caller believed there may have been an accident. A deputy responded but the vehicles were no longer in the area. MONDAY, NOV. 24 1:55 p.m. - Deputies located a man wanted for a Roberts County warrant. The man was transported to jail to be held for Roberts County. 5:33 p.m. - A deputy investigated a car/deer crash on Highway 50 East of Vermillion. 6:56 p.m. - A caller reported she had attempted to pass a van on University Road but the van sped up and then slowed down preventing her from passing. She did not see where the van went once she got around it. The van was no longer in the area. 9:33 p.m. - A vehicle was stopped and the driver was cited for speeding on 455th Avenue near Wakonda. 10:30 p.m. - A vehicle was stopped and the driver was cited for speeding on University Road north of Vermillion. TUESDAY, NOV. 25 6:57 a.m. - An inmate was transported form the Minnehaha County Jail to the Clay County Jail after a probation violation in Sioux Falls. 3:12 p.m. - A rural resident called to report two puppies strayed to his property. No related reports of lost dogs were found. 10:58 p.m. - A deputy responded to a report of a woman in Wakonda who was threatening suicide. The threat was not determined to be imminent and no involuntary hold was placed. WEDNESDAY, NOV.26 12:25 p.m. - A deputy investigated a report from a rural resident who had fallen victim to an online car sales scam where the potential buyer convinced him to pay money to a fictitious 3rd person to transport the vehicle. $650.00 was lost in the fraudulent deal. 1:47 p.m. - A woman was transported from Wakonda to a psychological evaluation in Yankton and then transported to the Human Services Center for an involuntary mental health committal. 8:01 p.m. - A man was transported from Vermillion to the Human Services Center in Yankton for an involuntary mental health committal. THURSDAY, NOV. 27 6:13 p.m. - A caller reported a driver who appeared to be impaired. A deputy located the vehicle and stopped it. The driver had been swerving but was not found to be impaired. FRIDAY, NOV. 28 4:36 a.m. - Two callers reported concern about a man walking along Highway 50 in the dark. A deputy located the man and drove him to a safe place to wait for a ride. 6:11 p.m. - A man was transported from the Minnehaha County Jail to the Clay County Jail after he was arrested in Sioux Falls for a Clay County warrant. SATURDAY, NOV. 29 3:09 a.m. - A deputy investigated a report of a dog bite at a rural residence. A woman was bitten by her own dog which was current on its shots. 12:28 p.m. - A rural resident reported concerns about her neighbor shooting guns in the area. A deputy investigated and found the man was shooting legally owned weapons in a safe manner. 4:48 p.m. - A caller reported a fire behind a residence near Meckling. A deputy investigated and learned the property owner had a controlled burn in progress. 7:50 p.m. - A wanted person was located in Vermillion. The man was arrested and transported to the jail. 10:45 p.m. - A deputy responded to a report of women having trouble changing a tire. No vehicle present had the proper lug wrench and the owner did not want to call for service. The vehicle was moved clear of the road until the proper lug wrench could be located. (605)940-7033. POLICE REPORT MONDAY, NOV. 24 8:38 p.m. - Complainant requested help as there was unknown man walking around her back yard. Officers responded but the man was gone. No damage or other mischief was found. TUESDAY, NOV. 25 10:08 a.m. - FRAUD ALERT: Caller received a phone message for a thief claiming to be from the IRS and warning that the caller would be sued if they did not immediately return the call. A check of the number online showed the number was a known Fraud Line and there had been several complaint already. The IRS will not call you and threatened to sue you! Do not call back and provide any information to these thieves. 10:30 a.m. - Officers responded to a two vehicle injury accident. Investigation showed the driver of one vehicle did not notice the red light for the intersection until it was too late to stop and struck the other vehicle as it passed through the intersection with a green light. The driver was cited. The cited driver suffered injuries, was treated at the hospital and released. 3:27 p.m. - Officers investigated a two vehicle non-injury accident that occurred in a parking lot. Both parties were provided with information about the other driver and the accident was documented. 4:47 p.m. - Caller reported a dumpster fire. Officers responded and secured the area until the Fire Department arrived and extinguished the fire. Officers were unable to locate evidence of who started the fire. Under investigation. WEDNESDAY, NOV. 26 1:04 a.m. - A local bar requested assistance with two men who had gone into an employee only area and walked out with two sixpacks of beer without paying. Investigation revealed one the men had taken both the six-packs. He was charged with theft. 2:09 a.m. - Caller reported a fight outside a bar. Officer found a man and woman yelling at each other and being held back from attacking each other. Investigation revealed the man had been hitting on the woman and speaking graphically. She was offended and yelled at him. He yelled back. Third parties prevented the two from attacking each other. No one was hurt and no one wished to pursue the issue. 9:30 a.m. - Caller reported a dispute between a man and woman. Officers responded. The dispute was verbal only. The man was intoxicated and on probation. The man's probation officer requested the man be arrested. 2:08 p.m. - FRAUD ALERT: Caller reported receiving a phone call from an unknown man who started telling her that her bank account had been hacked. When she confronted him for more information he continued to talk over her. She hung up and called the number back and it was disconnected. A common scam involved the thief calling and claiming the victim's account has been hacked. The thief then requests information that will allow them to access the victim's accounts. Do not provide information to unknown callers! Hang up and call your bank directly. THURSDAY, NOV. 27 1:57 a.m. - Officers stopped a car for speeding. The driver was intoxicated and was arrested for DWI. He provided a portable breath test which disclosed a breath alcohol level of .162. 8:40 p.m. - Caller requested assistance in recovering his dog from his ex-girlfriend. An officer met with both parties and eventually got them to speak with each other and work out the issue. FRIDAY, NOV. 28 1:54 a.m. - Complainant requested a welfare check on a man who was depressed about a recent breakup and had consumed an large amount of alcohol. Officers responded and determined the man was depressed and had consumed a large amount of alcohol, but was not a danger to himself and was able to care for himself. 8:42 a.m. - An officer on patrol saw a man driving that he knew had a revoked driving status. The man was stopped and arrested. 3:17 p.m. - Complainant reported two vehicle parked for several days on the roadside in violation of City Ordinance. Officers located the two vehicles, marked the tires and contacted the owner regarding the complaint. The vehicles were moved by the next day. SATURDAY, NOV. 29 7:12 a.m. - Complainant reported being short of breath and requesting help. An officer responded and provided medical care until the ambulance took over care. 7:01 p.m. - Caller reported yelling and banging coming from a neighbor's apartment.
