SHERIFF’S REPORT
SUNDAY, NOV. 16
10:13 a.m. — A caller reported
concerns about his neighbor's
dog. A deputy checked the welfare
of the dog and found it had food
and shelter and appeared healthy.
3:03 p.m. — A deputy received
a report of a vehicle stuck in the
ditch northeast of Vermillion. The
deputy responded and found the
vehicle belonged to a resident
who lived nearby. The owner was
contacted and stated he had slid
off the road and become stuck. No
accident report was needed.
MONDAY, NOV. 17
3:27 p.m. — A deputy investigated a minor non-injury accident
in Wakonda.
8:34 p.m. — A deputy assisted
a trucking company with locating a
truck parked at a former employee's residence in Clay County.
The employee was located and he
assisted in getting the truck to the
employer.
TUESDAY, NOV. 18
7:16 a.m. — A deputy
responded to a car/deer accident
on Highway 19 near Centerville.
8:29 a.m. — A deputy
responded to assist Vermillion
Police Officers with a death investigation and to certify the death as
County Coroner after a 70 year
old man was found deceased at a
residence in Vermillion. The death
was of natural causes.
10:41 a.m. — A deputy
responded to assist Vermillion
Police Officers with a death investigation involving a 22 year old
man and to certify the death as
Clay County Coroner.
WEDNESDAY, NOV. 19
1:08 a.m. — A deputy investigated a minor non-injury accident
northeast of Vermillion. A vehicle
has slid off the road and become
stuck but received no damage.
7:52 a.m. — A vehicle was
stopped and the driver was cited
for speeding on 306th St.
8:18 a.m. — A deputy investigated a report that a registered
sex offender moved away without
giving proper notification. Charges
are under consideration.
9:39 a.m. — A vehicle was
stopped and the driver was cited
for speeding on Highway 46.
THURSDAY, NOV. 20
7:23 a.m. — A deputy investigated a car/deer crash on
Highway 19 north of Vermillion.
5:06 p.m. — A deputy assisted
a person who had vehicle problems on Highway 50 west of
Vermillion. Traffic control was provided while the man resolved the
issue.
9:47 p.m. — A deputy mediated a non-violent family dispute at
a rural residence.
FRIDAY, NOV. 21
1:28 p.m. — An inmate was
transported to a doctor appointment and then returned to the jail.
5:55 p.m. — A deputy investigated a trespassing complaint at a
residence near Centerville.
10:04 p.m. — A deputy investigated a car/deer accident on
Highway 46.
10:08 p.m. — A rural resident
reported the sound of a gunshot
near her residence. Officers
responded but found no indication
anyone was in the area or any
damage from a gunshot.
SATURDAY, NOV. 22
6:46 a.m. — A deputy investigated a car/deer accident on
302nd St.
11:47 a.m. — A caller reported
a man walking along the highway
south of Wakonda. A deputy
checked on the man and found he
did not need assistance.

POLICE REPORT
SUNDAY, NOV. 16
3:28 a.m. — Caller reported
loud music and the odor of marijuana in her apartment building. Officer
checked the area but were unable
to locate any loud music or odors.
8:12 p.m. — Caller reported
being assaulted by a female
acquaintance. Investigation resulted
in the woman being arrested for
assault.
MONDAY, NOV. 17
12:54 a.m. — An officer stopped
a vehicle after witnessing multiple
traffic violations. The driver was
intoxicated and was charged with
DWI.
10:16 a.m. — 911 caller called
and reported her ex-boyfriend was
in her home throwing things around,
the line was disconnected. Officers
responded and stopped the violence. Investigation resulted in the
man being arrested for domestic
assault and interfering with an
emergency communication.
TUESDAY, NOV. 18
1:45 a.m. — A vehicle was
stopped for entering a roadway from
a private drive without stopping.
Alcohol was found in and vehicle
and the underage driver admitted it
was his. He was cited.
8:29 a.m. — Officers responded
to a unresponsive man. The man
was deceased and the cause of
death was natural causes
10:41 a.m. — Officers were
called to a report of a unresponsive
man requiring medical care. On
arrival officers found the man was
deceased and had been for several
days. Investigation revealed the
death was caused by medical

12:06 p.m. — An Officer
stopped a car for running a stop
sign. The driver had a warrant for
his arrest out of Minnehaha County
and was arrested. An inventory
search of the vehicle pending
impound resulted in the discovery of
a pipe with burnt marijuana residue
on it.
WEDNESDAY, NOV. 19
2:00 a.m. — Officers saw a
vehicle driving erratically and was
preparing to stop it when it fled into
an alley. When officers found the
vehicle it was abandoned. The vehicle was parked on private property
and the property owner later
requested a tow truck to remove the
vehicle.
9:29 a.m. — Caller reported a
driver went around the school bus,
which was stopped with its flashers
going and the arm sign extended.
Officers investigated, located the
driver, and she admitted the offense
was possible. Information was forwarded to State's Attorney.
5:59 p.m. — Officers conducted
Alcohol Compliance Checks at local
licensed businesses. Ten checks
were conducted. Eight of the business passed the check and two
failed. The two employees who furnished alcohol to the undercover
informants were cited.
THURSDAY, NOV. 20
10:11 a.m. — Caller asked for
police assistance in recovering his
dog-tags that he had given to his
ex-girlfriend and now wanted back.
Officers contacted the ex-girlfriend
who claimed the caller had a necklace of hers and she wanted it back
as well. Officers explained to both
parties that their dispute was civil
and what the demands of each
party were, and that police would
not be further involved.
2:33 p.m. — Caller reported she
had accidentally left cash in a self-
checkout kiosk. When she remembered and returned the cash was
going. Video evidence is being
reviewed, under investigation.
FRIDAY, NOV. 21
5:07 a.m. — Caller reported two
people yelling. Officer responded
and contacted a man and woman
who had previously been in a relationship and were known to officers.
Investigation resulted in the woman
being arrested for domestic assault
and disorderly conduct.
6:29 p.m. — A car was stopped
for no headlights. The driver did not
have a valid driver's license and
was cited.
11:22 p.m. — Caller reported
receiving multiple text messages
with veiled threats regarding a
financial dispute. Officers interviewed both parties and determined
the the financial issue was a civil
issue. The subject texting was
warned against escalating or threatening violence.
SATURDAY, NOV. 22
12:06 a.m. — Caller reported a
woman was attempting to get into a
closed business. Officer responded
and located the person in question.
She had thought the business
would be open. No criminal acts
occurred.
12:24 a.m. — Caller reported an
underage woman was drinking alcohol at a local bar. Officers responded and found the woman. She
admitted to drinking alcohol and
was cited for underage consumption.
2:07 a.m. — An officer saw a
verbal argument escalating. He
pulled over and was approaching
the two subjects and saw one of the
subjects push and punch the second subject several times. At that
point, the suspect saw the officer
and immediately fled on foot. The
man was not identified. The victim
did not want medical treatment and

provided no information regarding
the suspect.
2:11 a.m. — While on foot
patrol, an officer was approached
by an elderly man who appeared
confused and asked for help. The
officer provided care while waiting
for the ambulance to arrive.
1:55 p.m. — Caller reported an
elderly woman had fallen and hit
her head. Officers responded and
provided treatment until the ambulance arrived.
