Vermillion Hy-Vee Employee Earns Company’s Highest Honor
Jozef Vogel named 2018 Hy-Vee Legendary Customer Service Award recipient
VERMILLION, S.D. (Aug. 24, 2018) — When you find
something you love, it’s worth going the extra mile to get it.
That’s what Jozef Vogel’s customers believe when it comes
to traveling to the Vermillion Hy-Vee store to find the HyVee HealthMarket products they love – and the personalized service that Vogel provides as HealthMarket manager
to each and every customer.
“It’s a pleasure shopping at the Vermillion Hy-Vee because of Jozef,” customer Martha Muellenberg said. “Whenever I see him, he knows what I’m looking for based on my
previous purchases. He goes out of his way to be helpful
and kind to every customer, and is a great example of how
one person can actually make a difference in a community.”
Vogel’s dedication to serving his customers follows
him out of the store as well. According to his store director Joshua Suing, Vogel reads grocery trade magazines to
stay up to date on retail trends, and will take his vacation
time to travel to health expos across the country. He uses
these trips to build relationships with suppliers that let him
bring products to the Vermillion Hy-Vee’s HealthMarket well
before they’re available at other stores in the Midwest. He
brings back samples and new items that he knows certain
customers will appreciate.
And appreciate it they do, according to a letter written by customer Kelly Stone. She writes, “Jozef is always
friendly and willing to answer any questions I have. He
even asked for my suggestions in foods that I would like
to see and one day gave me a gluten-free sample kit for my
daughter. I can’t express how much that means to both of
us! My daughter and I have been able to adjust our family’s
favorite recipes so that neither one of us feels like we are
missing out, and all this is possible because of the HealthMarket at Hy-Vee.”
Vogel’s commitment to his customers is the reason why
today, fellow employees, family members, customers and
Hy-Vee executives gathered at the Hy-Vee in Vermillion to
surprise Vogel with the Legendary Customer Service Award.
The award recognizes exemplary achievement in providing service that exceeds customers’ expectations. Only
nine winners are selected each year from among more than
80,000 Hy-Vee employees across eight states.
“Jozef is the person I strive to be like when taking care of
a customer,” Suing said. “He sets an exemplary example by
making sure every customer is greeted, making sure their
needs are met and always going above and beyond to make
them feel as if they are the most important person at that
moment. He’s an absolute legend in customer service in our
area.”

Candidates are nominated for the Legendary Customer Service Award by their co-workers, and winners are
selected by a panel of Hy-Vee’s top officers. Nominations
are evaluated on the employee’s overall contributions to
the company in nine areas: passion for customer service,
attitude, initiative, teamwork, problem-solving skills,
dedication to Hy-Vee fundamentals, communication skills,
professional image and self-confidence.
Hy-Vee’s Chairman, CEO and President Randy Edeker
said Vogel demonstrates exactly the type of commitment to
customers that Hy-Vee leaders had in mind when the Legendary Customer Service Award was established in 2006.
“Jozef lives out the things Hy-Vee stands for in everything he does — helpful, honest and respectful service to
our customers. Over and over, nominators called out his
dedication to the community and the people who live in
it and how it shows in his hard work,” Edeker said. “This
award honors the best of the best from among our Hy-Vee
family, and Jozef is most deserving of this recognition.”
Vogel and the other 2018 recipients of the Legendary
Customer Service Award will be inducted into Hy-Vee’s Customer Service Hall of Fame and receive a coveted Legendary Customer Service name badge and a custom-designed
ring to commemorate the honor. They will be guests of
honor at the Hy-Vee service award dinner in October, which
honors employees for longevity of service. They will also
be recognized at Hy-Vee’s annual stockholders’ meeting in
December. And finally, their photos will be prominently featured on the side of Hy-Vee trucks, showcasing their helpful
smiles to millions of travelers across the Midwest.
