Nothing,” she said. “So I was a little panicstricken, and decided I was either going to sink or swim. So, I just figured it all out.” Madden said she’s still not much of a coffee drinker. “I just drink brewed,” she said. “I’m still kind of a coffee weenie. I don’t drink the – I call them foo-foo drinks – the lattes and cappuccinos. I don’t drink those. I don’t like the shots, isn’t that terrible? But I drink the brewed, the house blend.” But she said it didn’t take her long to figure out how to make everything – about a week – thanks to the people who ordered the same thing each day. This is Madden’s ninth year living in Vermillion. “I do have a niece that lives close. My son’s clear out in Rapid (City) – my son, daughter-in-law and new grandson,” she said. In her off-hours, Madden said she likes to spend time on an unusual hobby. “I like to clean and organize,” she said. “I know, it’s kind of weird.” Madden said she loves what she’s doing, and she’s glad she has made so many friends in her time at the Neuharth Café. “I love people,” she said. Julie Madden is the Aramark supervisor at the Neuharth Café, located in the Al Neuharth Media Center, known by her many regular customers for her positive attitude and friendly smile. “I absolutely love my job here,” she said. “I love working at the Neuharth Center, and I absolutely love my customers.” Many of those customers are regulars, and they are Madden’s favorite part of the job. “I’ve gotten very close to everyone, because I’ve been here all day, every day for six years,” she said. Madden had been working for Aramark for two years prior to her running the coffee shop, operating a popcorn shop in the Coyote Student Center.
