Does your business or organization have an USD Theatre announces open auditions for Sweeney Todd The University of South Dakota’s Department of Theatre will be holding open auditions for their spring production of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Stephen Sondheim’s Tony Award winning musical. The director is especially seeking mature male actors for the roles of Judge Turpin and the Beadle. The role of Sweeney Todd has been cast. Performance dates are April 18-22, 2012. Auditions will take place in the Knutson Theatre, found in the Warren M. Lee Center for the Fine Arts on the USD Campus, on Monday, Jan. 30 between 6-10 p.m. An audition sign-up sheet is posted on the callboard outside of Theatre Department. Those interested in auditioning should sign up for a five-minute time slot. Please arrive for your audition ten minutes before your scheduled time in order to fill out an audition sheet. For the auditions please prepare two contrasting pieces: one monologue and one song for a total of no more than three minutes of material. Callbacks will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 1 from 5:30 to 10 p.m. Actors who are called back will be asked to prepare music from the show and a piece of text from the show with the appropriate dialect. Rehearsals will begin Monday, Feb. 20 for principal actors and Monday, Feb. 27 for the full company. Rehearsals will take place weekday evenings and one weekend day.
