The Annual Vermillion
Area Chamber & Community
Awards Banquet is Tuesday,
March 20, at Pro’s Bar & Grill
at 912 North Dakota St. The
social hour will begin at 5:30
p.m. followed by dinner and
the program. It is a time to
thank all of the members,
individuals and volunteers who
support and contribute to the
success of the chamber and
business community. The
banquet also gives us an
opportunity to recognize the
outstanding achievements of
the community leaders and
organizations by presenting the
Family Business of the Year
Award, the Mayor’s
Community Service Award,
the United Way Volunteer of
the Year Award, the VCDC
Community Leader Award,
along with other awards. The
guest speaker is Joe Glenn, the
University of South Dakota’s
head football coach. The
banquet is open to the public
and tickets are on sale now for
$30 each at the Chamber office
at 116 Market St., or you can

The Vermillion Area
Community Foundation is
accepting proposals for
projects to improve our
community. Forms for
submitting proposals by groups
or organizations are available at
the Chamber of Commerce
office. While funds available
are limited we can fully fund
small one time requests or
partially fund larger projects.
Your annual donations to our
Foundation will provide us
with increasing funds each year
for worthwhile projects.

• Painting Classes: Michele
Mechling and Hana Russell
will offer painting classes on
Tuesdays, March 13, 20 and 27
and April 3, at Washington St.
Arts Center, 202 Washington
Street. “Let’s Paint,” (3:45-5
p.m.) the class for kids (grades
2-5) explores basic painting
techniques in watercolor and
tempera. The fee is $28 for
Vermillion Area Arts Council
members, $32 non-members.
“Just Paint,” (5:30-7 p.m.) the
class for youth 12 and older
and adults, is for painting
enthusiasts who just need some
basic instruction on how to get
started on a painting. The
instructors will demonstrate
watercolor and acrylic
techniques and how to prepare
a variety of painting surfaces to
create a work of art. The fee is

TO CONTROL NOXIOUS
WEEDS AND
DECLARED PESTS
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN this 13h day of March,
2012, pursuant to SDCL 38-22 as amended to all owners,
occupants, agents and public officials in charge of lands
in Clay County, South Dakota, that they are responsible
of the suppression, control, and eradication of noxious
weeds and declared pest infestations that may exist on
such lands.
Chemical, biological, and/or cultural control methods
used for the suppression, control and eradication of
noxious weed and declared pest infestations shall be
those approved for such purposes by the Clay County
Weed and Pest Supervisor, County Agricultural Extension
Agent or the South Dakota State University Experiment
Station.
Upon failure to observe this notice, the county weed
and pest board is required to proceed pursuant to the law
and have the noxious weeds or declared pests destroyed
by such methods as they may find necessary, the expense
of which shall constitute a lien and be entered as a tax
against the land, and be collected as other real estate
taxes are collected, or by other means as provided by law.
Plant and animals designated as being noxious weeds
and declared pests in the state of South Dakota are Leafy
Spurge, Salt Cedar, Perennial Sow Thistle, Russian
Knapweed, Hoary Cress, Canada Thistle, Purple
Loosestrife, Prairie Dogs, and Gypsy Moth.
In addition, Musk Thistle and Plumless Thistles have
been approved by the State Weed and Pest Control
Commission as locally noxious weeds and are subject to
the same suppression, control and eradication
requirements as the before mentioned plants and animals.
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that upon establishing
probable cause to believe a noxious weed or declared
pest infestation exists upon any property in Clay County,
a representative of the Clay County Weed and Pest
Control Board will enter upon said property for the
purpose of inspecting and confirming that such
infestation actually exists.

Gehm) and balladeer of Irish
songs, Chris Hoover. Grace
Freeman and her Irish Dancers

also feature “Ole Ni’s Taku he?”
(What Do You See?) an exhibit
of photographs by Mary Black
Bonnet Artichoker. The Irish
dinner includes Potato Soup,
Irish Beef Stew, soda bread,
