Area Chamber & Community
Awards Banquet is Tuesday,
March 20 at Pro’s Bar & Grill
at 912 North Dakota St. The
social hour will begin at 5:30
p.m. followed by dinner and
the program. It is a time to
thank all of the members,
individuals, and volunteers
who support and contribute
to the success of the chamber
and business community.
The banquet also gives us
an opportunity to recognize
the outstanding achievements
of the community’s leaders
and organizations by
presenting the Family
Business of the Year Award,
the Mayor’s Community
Service Award, the United
Way Volunteer of the Year
Award, the VCDC
Community Leader Award,
along with other awards. The
guest speaker is Joe Glenn, the
University of South Dakota’s
head football coach.

March & Mayor for Meals
Campaign: In March 1972,
Congress passed and
President Nixon signed into
law a new provision of the
Older Americans Act (OAA)
that laid the groundwork for
more than 5,000 Senior
Nutrition Programs
nationally. This program
authorizes and supports vital
nutrition services, both
congregate & Meals on
Wheels, to Americans age 60
and older. Watch for
events/opportunities to
contribute to the Senior Meals
Program here in Vermillion
throughout the month of
March and during other times

• The 28th Annual South
Dakota Science Olympiad
State Tournament is March 31
at the University of South
Dakota. More than 250
middle school and high
school students from across
the state will be competing in
several science events. Faculty,
staff and students from USD
organize and judge the
individual challenges and
team events. Science
Olympiad is an international
non-profit with a mission to
improve science education
quality, increase student
interest and recognize
outstanding achievement by
students and teachers.
• The Southeast South
Dakota Pheasant Association
banquet will be Saturday,
March 31 at Pro’s. Social hour
begins at 5 p.m. Banquet
starts at 6 p.m. Pre-sale tickets
are $15 for singles and $20 for
couples, $5 more at the door.
Banquet ticket holders are
entered in a drawing for a 12guage shotgun. There will be
additional raffles, games,
silent and live auction during
the banquet. Association
memberships are $10 pre-sale
or at the banquet. They are
$25 the rest of the year. Raffle

an annual philanthropic event
that aims to raise funds for
causes that benefit the
Vermillion community. The
annual event, “MINGLE”, is a
gourmet food and wine
tasting event designed to
gather people together and
raise awareness and funds that
will benefit the local
community. For the inaugural
event, RED Steakhouse has
decided to MINGLE with the
Dakota Hospital Foundation
(DHF). Proceeds from this
year’s MINGLE will go
towards funding a third labor
and delivery room within the
Sanford Vermillion Hospital.

• The Library Expansion
and Renovation Project has
started early due to the mild
winter. The south entrance
door to the Library has been
closed. All patrons must enter
through the Church Street
(west) entrance. The
contractor will begin with the
expansion of the south area of
the building. Please be aware
