United Way
Gov.
launches virtual seeking
volunteer center interns
Vermillion residents
looking to give back now
have a new tool to find
volunteer opportunities in
the community thanks to
United Way of Vermillion’s
new virtual volunteer center.
The center, which can be
found at
http://unitedwayofvermillion
.org/volunteer, will house
opportunities from nonprofits around the
community and allow
potential volunteers to
browse and sign up online.
“We’re hoping we can
create a space where anyone
looking to give back to the
community can find the kind
of volunteer work that fits
their needs and their
schedule, and local
organizations can get the
help they need,” said United
Way Executive Director
Kelsey Collier-Wise. “We
work with a lot of different
groups in the community, so
we felt that we were in a
unique position to provide
this service.”
Collier-Wise expects the
site to get a lot of use by
students, who are often
required to do a number of
hours of community service,
but she stressed that the site
was aimed at anyone in
Vermillion who wanted to
give of their time.
United Way of Vermillion
improves lives by mobilizing
the caring power of the
community through focus
on education, income, and
health. For more information
about United Way or to
make a donation, visit
http://www.unitedwayofver
million.org.
Gov. Dennis
Daugaard is currently
seeking applications for
two spring 2014
Governor’s Office
Internships in Pierre. The
positions will be paid and
run from early January
through May 2014.
Governor’s office
interns have the
opportunity to work at
the highest level of state
government, learning
about and preparing
legislation to be
introduced in the next
legislative session.
Interested students
should submit a resume,
cover letter and two letters
of recommendation by
Oct. 15 via e-mail, to
Patrick.Weber@state.sd.us.
