Holocaust expert, encyclopedia
writer speaks at USD and Dordt
Noted author and Holocaust
expert, Geoffrey P. Megargee,
Ph.D., will give presentations at
University of South Dakota (USD)
in Vermillion, and at Dordt College
in Sioux Center, IA. The
presentations are free and open to
the public.
His first lecture will be at USD on
Tuesday, Nov. 5, at 7 p.m. in the
Muenster University Center Grand
Ballroom. The presentation is titled
“The Universe of Nazi Camps and
Ghettos.”
On Wednesday, Nov. 6, Megargee
will present two lectures to be held in
the Douglas and Henrietta
(Miedema) Ribbens Academic
Complex classroom CL1144/1148 at
Dordt College.
The 4 p.m. lecture is titled
“Selective Realities, Selective
Memories: A Psychohistorical
Analysis of the German Generals’
Postwar Recollections.” The 7:30 p.m.
lecture is titled “A World Behind
Wire: The Universe of Nazi Camps
and Ghettos.”
His work in
charting the extent of
the Nazi prison camp
system and as the
general editor on the
“Encyclopedia of
Camps and Ghettos,
Megargee
1933-1945” has
earned Megargee national attention
recently from news stations,
including the PBS Newshour.
Senior Applied Research Scholar
in the Center for Advanced
Holocaust Studies at the United
States Holocaust Memorial
Museum in Washington, D.C.,
Megargee is the author of War of
Annihilation: Combat and
Genocide on the Eastern Front,
1941 and Inside Hitler’s High
Command. He has also been a
presidential counselor for the
National World War II Museum in
New Orleans.
Megargee has a B.A. from St.
Lawrence University. Following
