10 Broadcaster Press February 18, 2014 www.broadcasteronline.com Coffee Cup Fuel Stop donates to Vermillion Food Pantry Each year, team members in Subway, Pizza Hut, and Caribou Coffee at the Coffee Cup Fuel Stop, located east of Vermillion near the Interstate 29 exit, save their tips and donate them to a selected charity each December. On Dec. 16, 2013, the food team leader from Coffee Cup Fuel Stop presented Mary Berglin of the Vermillion Food Pantry with the check for $6,000. The selection for 2013, the Vermillion Food Pantry, offers food supplies for 7-10 days to low or moderate-income Clay County families. Throughout the year, the organization provided aid to more than 5,000 individuals, a 10 percent increase in assistance to those in need. The check received doubled their capability to extend a hand to the community. “We were so blessed to receive this generous gift at a time when food had been disappearing off our shelves at an alarming rate. This gift helped us to buy food during one of our busiest times of the year. We are very thankful to the staff,” said pantry director Mary Berglin. Ericka Schapekahm, director of human resources at Coffee Cup Fuel Stop, said, “Two of our food leaders were aware of the growing needs of the Vermillion Food Pantry and brought it to the attention of the entire group. The food team agreed, this is where they wanted to make an impact.” This is the second year the food teams at the Coffee Cup Fuel Stop have saved tips to donate. Last year’s recipient was the Yankton Heartland Humane Society.
