02 Broadcaster Press May 6, 2014 www.broadcasteronline.com Meet Savannah Kirsch By David Lias Vermillion High School students on Friday and Saturday, May 2 and 3, and Sunday, May 4 performed the Tony Award-winning musical, in the Vermillion High School Performing Arts Center. It’s not uncommon to see Savannah on stage during VHS theatrical performances. “I’ve been involved all through high school, and even before high school, I grew up doing drama. It’s just something that I love to do,” she said. david.lias@plaintalk.net Savannah Kirsch, a junior at Vermillion High School was temporarily transformed into Broadway start Janet Van De Graaff, who planned to give up her show business career to marry an oil tycoon. During the summer months, she’s also involved with Vermillion Community Theatre productions. “That’s different from high school, because you get to work with people of different ages, and you get to meet new people in the community,” Savannah said. She loves how acting allows one to pretend to be someone they aren’t. “What gets me is to be able to express in a different way different characters and emotions,” Savannah said. “It’s challenging, and I think that’s why I like it.” Those challenges range from dealing with the nervous energy that occurs before the curtain rises, to all the preparatory work that must be accomplished before show time. “I get nervous, but it’s not so much stage fright. I think I’ve gotten used to that,” she said. “But it’s always difficult trying to memorize lines, and songs, and positions on stage,” she said. “That just comes with trying. It gets a little bit easier each time, but it’s still challenging.” Savannah expected, 14th Annual BRANDON, 26th CITYWIDE EARLY DEADLINES for May 27th Issues SALES Broadcaster Press Deadline: Noon Thursday, May 22 Deadline: 11am Thursday, May 22 SD Thursday, May 8 Friday, May 9 Saturday, May 10 following rehearsal last Wednesday, that she would likely experience mixed feelings after the final curtain call. “There will be a little bit of relief, just because we got through it, but also, I’ll be a little sad when this is over.
