Out of concern for her a deputy searched the area. The woman was later located near Jefferson and was arrested for DWI. 8:51 a.m. — A deputy assisted a motorist experiencing car trouble on Saginaw Avenue. 3:25 p.m. — A woman was transported to the Human Services Center in Yankton for an involuntary mental health committal. MONDAY, JAN. 5 9:17 a.m. — A rural resident reported he has been having problems with neighbors' dogs straying to his property. A deputy contacted nearby residents and asked them to keep their dogs contained on their own property. 2:21 p.m. — A deputy responded to a non-injury, one car accident on 306th St. TUESDAY, JAN. 6 10:03 a.m. — A deputy arrested a man in the courtroom for a bond violation. WEDNESDAY, JAN. 7 3:17 p.m. — A deputy responded to a minor one vehicle accident south of Burbank after a vehicle slid into a community mailbox. THURSDAY, JAN. 8 11:56 p.m. — A deputy mediated a domestic dispute in Irene. There was no assault or cause for arrest found. FRIDAY, JAN. 9 10:05 a.m. — The school resource officer assisted with bringing a truant child to school. 11:44 a.m. — A deputy responded to a report of a life alert button being pushed at a rural residence. It was found that a dog had stepped on the button. There was no emergency. 5:51 p.m. — Deputies assisted with a death investigation in Vermillion. The death was determined to be of natural causes. SATURDAY, JAN. 10 9:34 a.m. — A deputy mediated a domestic dispute at a rural residence. The dispute was verbal and did not result in an arrest. 9:45 a.m. — A deputy investigated a minor, non-injury motor vehicle accident west of Vermillion. 10:58 a.m. — A caller reported receiving a call from someone claiming to be the IRS and demanding payment for back taxes by credit card. The intended victim recognized this as a scam attempt and did not give any money or information. 6:03 p.m. — A deputy received a report of sexual contact involving an underage girl and an adult man. This information related to a previously reported crime and no new offense had taken place. 6:50 p.m. — A deputy responded to a report of a suicidal woman in Wakonda. A determination was made that she was not in immediate danger and could be cared for until she could be committed the next day. Officers are investigating. 12:30 p.m. — A caller reported damage to a light pole near his residence. Officers checked the damage and located vehicle tire tracks in the snow near the damaged light pole. The incident is under investigation. MONDAY, JAN. 5 11:25 a.m. — Complainant reported damage to his vehicle, stating his windshield had been broken. Officers are investigating. 12:20 p.m. — An officer responded to a report of a two vehicle, non injury accident. During the investigation, both vehicle occupants were confirmed to be uninjured. A male driver was cited for a stop sign violation. 5:06 p.m. — A caller reported fraudulent charges on her debit card. The case is currently under investigation. 8:44 p.m. — An officer stopped a vehicle that was observed to be excessively accelerating, causing the vehicle's rear end to swing back and forth on the snow and ice covered roadway. The male driver was found to not be wearing a seatbelt. The driver received a warning for the speed violation and a citation for not wearing his seatbelt. 12:27 p.m. — An officer stopped a vehicle for speeding. During contact with the driver, the officer confirmed the male driver, as well as a young passenger, were not wearing seatbelts. The driver was issued a warning for the speed violation and issued a citation for not wearing his seatbelt. The driver also received a citation for not ensuring the passenger under age 5 was properly belted. 7:30 p.m. — Complainant reported burglary to her home and damage to a window. No known items reported missing at this time. The incident is still under investigation. 9:29 p.m. — Officers responded to a call of a possible fire. They arrived on scene and assisted with evacuating the residents from the home. They remained on scene to assist the Vermillion Fire Department as needed while the source of the alarm was investigated. 10:42 p.m. — An officer responded to a report of a verbal domestic dispute. Officers were able to make contact with the involved individuals. During the investigation, officers learned the incident was a verbal argument and nothing physical occurred between the male and female parties. The officers confirmed the issue was resolved prior to leaving the residence. 4:21 p.m. — A local business reported catching a shoplifter. An officer met with the business and the involved female. Charges for theft and underage possession of alcohol are being requested. 5:08 p.m. — Complainant reported an attempted IRS phone scam. The complainant had received a phone call from an individual who stated he was with the IRS and the complainant was advised they owed money. No personal or financial information was provided to the caller. An officer attempted to follow up with the individual who identified himself as working for the IRS. THURSDAY, JAN. 8 2:17 a.m. — Officers were sent to a report of a vehicle that had been driven into a yard. When officers arrived, they observed truck partially off the roadway. The truck had significant damage from striking a tree. Officers investigated the incident and the male driver was found to be intoxicated. He was arrested and charged with DWI and reckless driving. 8:09 a.m. — An officer stopped a vehicle for speeding 32 mph in a 15 mph school zone. The female driver was cited for the speed violation. 12:40 p.m. — Complainant reported a burglary from his residence where a gaming system was stolen. The case is currently still under investigation. 11:20 p.m. — An officer responded to a complaint of loud music. The officer was able to make contact with the resident of the apartment and the music volume was turned down. No charges were filed.
