starts with her staff.
“It is a gift, a unique talent
and set of skills to work with
young children,” she said.
“We have amazing talented
professionals. I give all the
credit to all the work they do
in the classrooms every day
building those relationships.
More than skills or qualifications, it is an innate love of
children and learning. It is
a disposition of wanting to
build a positive connection
with our youngest learners
and to push them to do the
best they can.”
Johnson said that while
early education can seem
like it is all fun in games, it is
in reality, building the skills
young learners will need for
lifelong learning skills.
“Everything seems like
a fun adventure, but it is
also so objective and skill
focused,” she said. “The kids
think they are playing games
but the teachers have worked
hard to design the curriculum
and the activities to incorporate learning in a fun and
highly engaging way – and
that is a gift. That is everybody across the board. They
are all a part of the success
of Austin School.”
Johnson added that her
staff inspires her to reach
new goals.
“They inspire me,” she
said. “It makes me feel accountable to keep moving
forward and keep us on the
right trajectory. I am just a
facilitator and leader to help
give them the resources they
need to continue to excel at
educating these wonderful
students we have every day.
It is a privilege to be with the
students and staff every day.
“I get to have a relationship with so many children
(in my current position),”
Johnson said reflecting on
her move from classroom
teacher to principal. “I can
do thing in the classroom
still by covering a classroom
for meetings now and then.
It helps me – to get a halfhour or hour in kindergarten
humbles me immensely and
helps me put my teachers on
a pedestal all day long.”
ATTENTION
VERMILLION WASTEWATER USERS
SUMP PUMP DISCHARGE NOTICE
Sumps pumps have been installed in many Vermillion homes to
remove groundwater collected by foundation drains and thereby
prevent water damage to basement walls and floors. This water is not
polluted and does not require any treatment before being
discharged to a waterway.
Sanitary sewers, however, collect wastes from homes, other
buildings and businesses; these wastes must be treated prior to
discharge to a waterway. The discharge of sump pumps to floor
drains and to indoor plumbing can result in hydraulic overloads of the
sanitary sewer. When sewer lines become overloaded, sewage can
back up into homes and businesses. Therefore, it is against
Vermillion City Ordinance to discharge a sump pump to the sanitary
sewer system.
We want to protect all homeowners from sewer backups. To do this
we need everyone's cooperation to ensure sump pumps are not
discharged to the sanitary system. If you have any questions
concerning the proper discharge of sump pumps, feel free to call the
Wastewater Facility at 677-7077.
