The grant program was established by Senate Bill 82 and is a result of the Native American Student Achievement Advisory Council’s work. The purpose of the grant program is to fund three pilot schools within targeted public school districts, aimed at improving academic outcomes for Native American students. The following three schools have been awarded grants: • Todd County Cultural Elementary School • Todd County Middle School • Wakpala High School “These schools will be infusing Native American culture and language throughout their curriculum,” said Mato (MAH-toe) Standing High, director of the South Dakota Office of Indian Education. “Sometimes Native students struggle to feel a sense of belonging in our education system. It’s hard to learn when you don’t feel like you fit in. These grants are intended to help combat that problem. And the more students who feel like they belong, the better off every student in our state will be.” In selecting grant recipients, priority was given to projects that encourage academic perseverance, support development of the whole child, encourage student leadership skills and show commitment to increasing student success through building cultural identities. The achievement schools will have 2.5 years to plan for implementation before official rollout of programs in fall 2019. Each awardee will receive $590,000 over the grant period. Government Entities Set Information Release Policy PIERRE, S.D. – Officials of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety and several local governmental entities statewide have implemented a three-day information release policy designed to meet the requirements of a new amendment to the South Dakota Constitution. “Marsy’s Law,” was approved by voters in the Nov. 8 election. The amendment provides certain rights for crime victims and their families. Victims have the right to ask that their information not be released to the public. Officials of DPS, Minnehaha County, Pennington County and the city of Sioux Falls have agreed to the new information release plan which addresses that requirement. Potential victims will be told by law enforcement that they have the right not to have their personal information released to the public. The new policy prohibits the release of the names of potential victims in any case for three calendar days so they Book 62 have an opportunity to request the information not be released. If the victim does not make that specific request in that time frame,Sudoku #5 it will be released after three days. “This policy is designed to make sure 2 5 8 4 7 MADSEN AUCTION 6 4 2 9 SERVICE 5 3 7 2 1 3 WE ARE PAYING CASH FOR: bpp b Since 1934 Since 1934 Sudoku #1 8 5 3 1 6 7 9 2 2 1 4 7 7 6 1 9 3 2 8 5 4 9 5 3 1 8 6 4 9 4 2 6 5 3 7 8 6 3 9 8 4 7 2 7 2 9 8 1 4 5 5 6 3 8 2 3 5 4 1 9 7 6 6 2 8 1 3 5 9 7 7 8 1 3 9 4 6 2 4 The Broadcaster 1 has all the Sudoku #3 deals you 5 2 7 1 9 6 3 4 need to5keep 6 1 3 8 9 4 you high and 5 7 3 1 9 5 6 1 4 2 8 6 8 2 dry! 3 7 5 8 2 9 4 8 7 6 7 1 4 2 3 9 5 4 3 2 8 5 7 2 5 9 6 3 8 3 4 6 7 1 2 8 7 1 9 4 5 1 9 6 7 4 1 5 8 9 2 6 3 624-4429 Sudoku #5 2 8 7 3 5 6 3 2 1 9 4 8 9 4 2 7 3 7 1 6 6 5 8 9 7 2 6 4 4 3 5 1 8 1 9 5 9 1 6 5 7 4 1 8 5 6 7 2 1 3 8 6 8 5 9 4 4 2 3 1 3 8 5 9 6 9 2 7 2 7 4 3 4 9 3 5 2 7 1 8 6 broadcasteronline.com Sudoku #7 2 7 9 8 6 1 3 4 5 B roadcaster Broadcaster Press 4 bp B 8 Press Since 1934 9 4 2 7 1 4 2 5 7 Press Sudoku #4 3 7 5 1 4 9 9 6 1 8 2 3 8 4 2 6 5 7 5 9 6 3 1 2 7 8 4 9 6 5 1 2 3 7 8 4 6 5 9 2 3 1 4 1 7 EASY 8 5 9 2 3 8 4 7 6 2 6 4 7 9 1 7 8 1 3 6 5 8 4 3 2 5 9 1 7 8 Last Tuesday’s 8 5 3 4 2 9 7 6 1 Sudoku Solution #6 2 3 1 6 5 9 7 6 9 4 7 8 3 5 8 7 5 1 2 4 6 1 2 6 9 3 5 8 3 8 7 4 1 2 9 4 5 9 8 6 7 3 5 6 2 3 9 1 4 7 1 8 5 4 6 2 9 4 3 2 7 8 1 8 4 2 1 3 9 4 7 6 5 1 2 7 8 9 3 5 6 Sudoku #8 2 4 3 9 6 7 5 1 8 3 7 3 5 1 9 4 7 9 2 4 8 6 2 © 2008 KrazyDad.com EA BOOK 62 #7 su do ku © 2008 KrazyDad.com Check next Tuesday’s paper for the solution to today’s puzzle. CH BOOK 62 #6 The rule of thumb is that it takes at least two inches of ice to support an angler, at least six inches to support an ice shack and over a foot for a vehicle, but that applies to strong, clear ice. Dark or cloudy ice is not as strong as clear ice. If a person is going to venture out, they should also test ice conditions as they proceed. “Just because an angler sees six inches near the shore, doesn’t mean it will be six inches across the lake. Springs, current, wind or ice heaves all effect the formation of ice and can make ice very dangerous,” said Lott. Anglers are reminded to drill test holes to measure the thickness of the ice they are traveling on, have flotation devices available and tell someone where they are going to be.
