Registration Open For
SD’s Largest Classroom
At The SD State Fair
HURON, S.D. – Registration is now open for South
Dakota’s Largest Classroom at the 2019 South Dakota
State Fair. The Largest Classroom event will take place on
Thursday, Aug. 29, and Friday, Aug. 30, 2019.
Participating schools will be able to take part in
specialized programming, including watching the Bengal
Tiger Encounter, visiting the Noah’s Way Exotic Animal
Petting Zoo, and learning from the Hillbilly Silly Science
Spectacular. Visits to a one-room schoolhouse, the Dakotaland Museum, FFA Ag Adventure Center, and 4-H and
open class exhibits are also part of the classroom agenda.
“It’s a great way for teachers to kick off the school
year, as well as a great way for students to learn outside
of the classroom,” said Peggy Besch, State Fair manager.
“I encourage schools to take advantage of this hands-on
learning opportunity.”
The classroom is open to public, private and home
schools. Teachers are encouraged to register as soon as
possible. The South Dakota’s Largest Classroom program
is free to students, teachers and chaperones. Lunch and
parking will also be provided. The registration form can
be obtained at sdstatefair.com or by calling 605.353.7340.
The 2019 South Dakota State Fair will run from Thursday, Aug. 29, through Monday, Sept. 2. Channel Seeds
Preview Day will be Wednesday, Aug. 28. This year’s
theme is “There is no Time Like Fair Time.” For more

Custer, SD; May 21, 2019 – All motorized trails remain
temporarily closed to motor vehicle use on the Forest
due to extreme wet conditions and a forecast calling for
more wet and cold weather.
A closure order was signed last week prohibiting any
type of motorized use on motorized trails. Additionally,
seasonally closed gates remain closed until conditions
allow them to open.
Users can still ride on over 3,000 miles of Forest Service roads. Forest officials ask the public to avoid driving
through wet and muddy spots on these roads to prevent
damage to road surfaces.
“The trails will be opened when conditions allow,
but for now they need to remain closed to prevent long
lasting damage,” said Mark Van Every, Black Hills National Forest Supervisor. “As trails dry out, some may be
opened while others may take additional time.”
The restricted area covers the entire Black Hills
National Forest Motorized Trail System in both Wyoming
and South Dakota.
The public can stay informed on status of the closure order by viewing local news media, the Black Hills
National Forest website (https://www.fs.usda.gov/blackhills), Black Hills National Forest Facebook page (U.S.
Forest Service - Black Hills National Forest) or by contacting their local Black Hills National Forest Ranger District
Office.
Please be aware that damaging forest roads and lands
is against the law. The legal and financial consequences
can be steep, and damages done to the land can take
years to repair.

PIERRE, S.D. – Governor Kristi Noem today announced that Amy Iversen-Pollreisz will serve as Interim
Secretary of Social Services. This follows the resignation
of current Secretary of Social Services Greg DeSautel,
which is effective May 22.
“I’m thankful for the ways Amy has served South
Dakota through her various roles at DSS over the years,”
said Noem. “I’m confident she’ll continue moving the
department in the right direction during this interim
period.”
“I am honored to serve the department in this capacity,” said Iversen-Pollreisz. “I look forward to continue
working with Governor Noem and the diligent staff at the
Department of Social Services.”
Iversen-Pollreisz currently serves as deputy cabinet
secretary for the Department of Social Services where
she has led extensive system change initiatives and infrastructure development for behavioral health services.
Previously, she served in various roles within the Department of Human Services, including work as the director
of the Division of Mental Health. She also served as an
elementary school counselor in Stanley County.
Iversen-Pollreisz is a Pierre resident.
