Pork Butt Battle
Returns To The SD
State Fair
HURON, S.D. – The South Dakota
State Fair will host the Pork Butt Battle presented by the SD Pork Producers and Jack’s Campers on Friday, Aug.
30, 2019, in Horticulture Park.
Fairgoers are encouraged to come
by the contest for the free people's
choice tasting.
First place in the contest will take
home $500, second place $225, third
place $125, and the people’s choice
winner will take home $100. A trophy
is also given to all the winners.
Professional judging and people’s
choice judging starts Friday, Aug. 30,
at 3 PM, with awards to follow at 4:15
p.m.
To enter, $40 per entry is due by
Friday, Aug. 23. Checks can be made
payable to the SD State Fair and
mailed to SD State Fair, Attn: Pork Butt
Battle.

on the South Dakota State Fair website, www.sdstatefair.com, under the
Special Events section.
The 2019 South Dakota State Fair
will run from Thursday, Aug. 29,
through Monday, Sept. 2. Channel

Noem Announces DENR Secretary
Following Pirner Retirement
PIERRE, S.D. – Governor Kristi
Noem today announced that Hunter
Roberts will join her administration
as Secretary of the Department of
Environment and Natural Resources
(DENR). This follows the retirement of
Steve Pirner, who has led DENR since
2000. Roberts will begin serving in this
capacity on August 5.
“I am grateful for Steve’s dedication
to his department over the years and
the ways he has worked to preserve
and enhance South Dakota’s environment,” said Noem. “Our natural
resources are some of our most precious resources; they are a vital key to
preserving our outdoor legacy for the
next generation. Hunter’s background
and knowledge of state government
will be an incredible asset as we continue moving this department forward
and working to safeguard our environment.”

family, he owns and operates a farm
and ranch southeast of Ft. Pierre.
Roberts holds a master’s degree
in business administration from the
University of South Dakota and a juris
doctorate of law from the University of
South Dakota. He is a Pierre resident.

Qualifications: Experience in graphic design and

The CASA Case Manager candidates must:
• Demonstrate a commitment to the mission of the organization, which is to

• Have experience working in a social services, nonprofit, educational, or court services field.
A Bachelor’s degree is required.
• Possess strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

• Assist with community outreach activities for the program.

The Southeast CASA (Court-Appointed Special Advocates) Program, a nonprofit organization
based in Yankton, SD, provides child advocacy services in five counties in southeastern South
Dakota.
A CASA Case Manager will be hired to serve Clay, Union, and Turner counties for the
program. The CASA Case Manager will be responsible for recruiting, training and coaching of
CASA volunteers and to attend court hearings in those counties.
