Dissertation Panel To Be Highlighted At The
2019 South Dakota Indian Education Summit

– The Office of
Indian Education
will showcase the
inaugural Dissertation
Panel at the 2019
South Dakota Indian
Education Summit,
which will be held
Sept. 22-24 at the
Ramkota in Pierre.
The panel will
consist of Indigenous
professionals who
have completed their
doctorate degree
and others who have
completed their
doctorate degree and
have researched on
Indigenous education.
The panel will share
their own dissertations
and aspects of the
dissertation process.
Summit participants
will learn how
scholarship impacts
our Indigenous
communities. Panel
members are:
Laurel Vermillion,
Ph.D., President of
Sitting Bull College
Cherie Farlee, Ed.D.,
Tribal Education

Deadline For Urban and
Community Forestry
Grant Is October 14
PIERRE, S.D. — South Dakota communities,
non-profit organizations, and Native American
tribes are encouraged to apply for a 2019 Urban
and Community Forestry Comprehensive
Challenge Grant.
Applications and accompanying
documentation must be submitted to the South
Dakota Department of Agriculture, Division of
Resource Conservation and Forestry (SDDA
RC&F) by October 14, 2019.
The Challenge Grant can be used to help
communities solve specific community forestry
problems or demonstrate the importance of
trees and urban forests in our communities.
Projects must be for trees or tree management
on public land or in public right of ways. Funds
can be used for professional services, tree
inventories and assessments, existing tree care
and maintenance, training and education, and
new tree planting.
If you don’t get the word out
