Arm Wrestling Championships
Dakota District Pipes and Drums
Stop by the softball field, east of Riverside Park, on
Saturday and Sunday for the South Dakota State Riverboat
Days Arm Wrestling Championships.
Heartland Arm-wrestling, Inc. is headquartered in
Omaha, Neb., and guided by Mary McConnaughey. The
sport continues to thrive by the promotions of elite athletes,
novice, teen, and kids divisions… there is a category for
everyone!
Beautiful awards will be given for first, second, and third
places in all divisions, with all children and teens receiving
an award. So whether you just want to observe some great
strong arms pulling or test your strength against some of the
strongest, you will enjoy this feature! Weigh in begins at
11:30 a.m. Saturday and the competition begins at 1 p.m.
This year Yankton’s very own John Brady and his daughter Katie will be representing the Dakota District Pipes and
Drums at Riverboat Days.
John has played the great highland bagpipes for 14 years.
He is a family practice physician at the Yankton Medical
Clinic. Katie has played for 4 years and will be attending the
University of Minnesota this fall to study bio-products engineering.
They both play with the Dakota District Pipes and Drums
(Sioux Falls) and have competed in solo contests in
Winnipeg, Kansas City, Milwaukee and Minneapolis.
Check them out at the amphitheatre at 2 p.m. on
Saturday.

Discovery Movement Theatre
Discovery Movement Theatre's mime shows are fastpaced, colorful, fun and easily accessible. Versatile and creative, they are a perfect fit for anything from festivals and
fairs to formal theatres.
Brian and Mary began as a mime duo in 1981 at the
University of South Dakota where they were both studying
theatre. Mary was a gymnast, athlete and actor; Brian was a
fencer, mime and vaudevillian. They immediately began creating together, fell in love and have been two halves of the
same apple ever since. They have performed thousands of
times in venues ranging from plush formal theatres to mudsoaked parks and cow-pie laden fields.
Come and enjoy this talented duo at 3 p.m. Saturday at
the amphitheatre.
