construction zone. He

to a citizen’s report that
his mailbox had been
struck by a vehicle near
Wakonda. Information
was taken for a report of
the incident.

residences in Irene and
Wakonda in search of
an escapee from another
jurisdiction. The inmate
was not found but
deputies will be
attempting to locate
him.

for speeding at 74 mph
in the 55 mph zone on
University Road and the
driver was ticketed for
the offense.

Falls to transport back
inmates who had been

resident moving to

abandoning his dogs. A

by a neighbor who
offered to give the dogs
a home.

road but the owner was
not located.

residence near Wakonda
in an attempt to locate a
person who escaped
from the Yankton
County Jail. The person
was not found.

Sheriff’s Office to
resolve his outstanding
warrant. It was found
that he was under the
influence of marijuana.
After investigation, he
was arrested for
ingestion of marijuana
and possession of
marijuana and drug
paraphernalia.

a complaint of
vandalism to a tractor
near Gayville. It was
found that the damage
happened sometime in
the last year and was not
recent.

the highway past the
city park in Wakonda.
The vehicle was stopped
and the driver was asked
to slow down in this
area.

A deputy responded
to a domestic
disturbance at a rural
residence. There was no
altercation but a
resident wanted his
girlfriend removed from
the house. The deputy
assisted with some
options to resolve the
dispute. No arrests were
made.

Department with a drug
investigation and a
search warrant. Six
arrests were made.

suicidal woman who
had become combative.
She was safely detained
and evaluated for a
mental illness hold.

was gathered for an

then returned to the jail.

goats killed. It is
believed they may have
been killed by dogs. The
matter is under
investigation.

semi stopped along the
road and after checking
on the driver learned
the driver needed
directions. The deputy
assisted the driver with
directions to his
destination.

A vehicle was
observed driving at 89
mph on 306th St. The
vehicle was stopped and
the driver cited for the
offense.

A deputy assisted the
Vermillion Police
Department with
locating a rural resident
who had violated a
protection order. The
man was located at his
residence and
subsequently arrested
for the offense.

Swimming and diving
men, women lose at home
The University of
South Dakota men’s and
women’s swimming and
diving suffered setbacks
at the hands of Green
Bay at the USD Pool in
the DakotaDome. The
men lost 149-89 and the
women lost 148-95.
The Coyote women
won four of 13 events.
Mariah Anderson
(Kearney, NE), Shannon
Moceri (South Lyon,
MI), Hannah Veselik
(Darien, IL) and Kaitlyn
Jefferson (Westland, MI)
opened the meet with a
victory in the 4x100meter medley relay,
finishing in 4 minutes
and 32.43 seconds.
Megan Chmielewski
(Shakopee, MN), Moceri
and Jefferson brought
home individual event
victories for South
Dakota. Chmielewski
score 262.49 on the 1meter board. The mark is
19 points shy of the
NCAA qualifying mark.
Moceri won the 100
breaststroke in 1:14.17
and Jefferson the 50
freestyle in 27.87.
“Megan dove
phenomenally today,”
said head coach Jason
Mahowald. “Her score on
the 1-meter board was
her best by 30 points.
She’s only 19 points
short of qualifying for
the NCAA meet and we
are only four meets into
the year.”
Colin Krysl (Bellevue,
NE) came up with the
lone win for the USD
men, winning the 100
butterfly in a lifetimebest 58.74. Krysl added a
second-place finish in
the 200 individual
medley as well. Blake
Frederick (Lincoln, NE)
took second in the 400
and 800 freestyle.
“This is a young
group,” said Mahowald.
“We are working hard to
improve the little things
with our team and we are
making big strides.
“Our goal is to
improve every time we
get a chance to compete
in the pool. This
upcoming week we will
have a couple more
opportunities to do that
in Wisconsin.”
Swimming and diving
will participate in the
Border Battle hosted by
Wisconsin Stevens-Point.
The two-day meet will
start at 10 a.m. on both
Friday and Saturday.
