08 Broadcaster Press January 7, 2014 www.broadcasteronline.com CLAY COUNTY SHERIFF’S PRESS BRIEFING 12/22/13 05:35 – A caller reported a car stopped on Highway 50 in the travel lane. The occupants were found to be sleeping with the car running. The driver was arrested for DWI and other charges. Other occupants were cited for alcohol offenses. 12/22/13 14:37 – A deputy responded to a burglar alarm at an Irene business. It was found that an employee had accidentally tripped the alarm. 12/22/13 15:26 – A rural resident reported a suspicious caller claiming to have been in an accident with the reporting party and asking for insurance information. No information was shared and the call was believed to be fraudulent. 12/23/13 16:31 – A deputy checked on the welfare of dogs that often strayed from a rural residence. The dogs had food, water and shelter at their owner’s residence. The owner was informed of the complaint. 12/23/13 21:13 – A deputy responded to a medical emergency in Wakonda. 12/23/13 22:17 – A deputy responded with fire units to a report of a smoke smell in a house west of Vermillion. The smoke was from a fireplace but GFCI outlets had tripped indicating another problem so a breaker was shut off. 12/26/13 01:38 – A vehicle was stopped and the driver was cited for driving 84 mph in the 65 mph zone on Highway 46. 12/26/13 02:05 – A deputy located a vehicle in the ditch on Highway 46. The vehicle was not damaged and there were no occupants. 12/26/13 20:11 – An inmate was transported to the Yankton County Jail to meet an inmate transport shuttle to Pennington County. 12/26/13 20:46 – A deputy mediated a child custody dispute in Wakonda. 12/27/13 07:44 – A deputy observed a vehicle 1815 traveling at 70 mph in the 55 mph zone on 306th Street. The vehicle was stopped and the driver was cited for the offense. 12/28/13 00:00 – A deputy investigated the theft of a corncrib at a rural residence of a neighbor of the reporting party. The deputy learned the corncrib was removed with proper permission. 12/28/13 18:12 – A deputy responded to a report of a car/deer accident east of Vermillion. 12/28/13 18:22 – A deputy responded to a report of a vehicle striking a stock tank on the highway south of Vermillion.
