MAXINE ROGERS 80TH BIRTHDAY!!
For the past 29 years,
journalism department
faculty members have
voted annually to award
one or more individuals
the title of distinguished
alumni, recognizing
outstanding
contributions to
journalism and mass
communication.
She is a 1980 graduate
of Vermillion High
School, and got her start
in journalism by helping
with the yearbook and
editing the school
newspaper. “That was one
of the reasons I thought
to myself, I’m going to
study journalism, because
I like this. This makes
sense – I like writing, I
like taking pictures, I like
layout and design.’”
Tina’s first job was in
California. While staying
with her dad’s brother
and wife in Fullerton, CA,
she was employed by the
Orange County Register.
“My first job was
working in their sales
department,” she said. “I
was there for maybe a
couple of months, and
then I took a job with the
Saddleback Chamber of
Commerce as a
communications
coordinator in Lake
Forest, CA.”
Tina said she
eventually outgrew that
job, and did odd jobs
before landing a job as
account executive for
media for the Orange
County Fair.
“I did that for quite a
while, and then I went
back to school and kind
of made a career change,”
she said. “I had also
worked as a marketing
director for a big festival
in Laguna, and that was
all press – pitching
