Sponsored by USD Student Services, the lawn to the east of the MUC was temporary home to three dogs from Yankton’s Heartland Humane Society, as well as a number of pooches belonging to USD faculty members. “It’s been a good time,” said Kerry Schmidt, executive director at Heartland Humane Society. “We do this two times a year, and then a Saturday event, as well. “The students always seem to come out and interact and get some one-on-one time with the dogs that they might be missing from home,” she said. Schmidt brought three dogs to USD Monday morning, a 5-month-old Brittany spaniel, a 9-yearold poodle and a 10-yearold white dog not immediately recognizable as a Samoyed. “She’s shaved for the summer,” Schmidt said.
