The annual scholarships of $1,000 each are awarded by the Edith Siegrist Scholarship Fund. Hansen The Siegrist Fund is affiliated with the Vermillion Public Schools Founda-tion. The scholar-ships celebrate the legacy of Edith Siegrist, who was a longtime educator and librarian. This marks the second year of financial assistance to VHS seniors. This year’s winners are Caitlin Britten and Wyatt Hansen, who were selected from a talented pool of candidates. Caitlin has been active in cross-country, track, choir and school plays. She plans to attend Western Iowa Tech in the fall Britten in pursuit of a medical assistant degree. Wyatt attended Boys’ State and is member of the National Honor Society. His activities included Police Explorers, Youth Trooper Academy and high school basketball. Wyatt plans to earn a bachelors degree in accounting with the goal of becoming a forensic accountant. The candidates were nominated by VHS faculty members, who recommended many qualified candidates. The Foundation is considering ways to expand its scholarship awards to VHS seniors.
