Scholarship recipients
Two Vermillion High School
seniors, an aspiring forensic
accountant and a future medical
assistant, are the 2014 winners of
The Edith Siegrist Scholarship for
high school seniors pursuing post
high school education.
The annual scholarships of
$1,000 each are awarded by the
Edith Siegrist Scholarship Fund.
Hansen
The Siegrist Fund is affiliated with
the Vermillion Public Schools
Founda-tion. The scholar-ships celebrate the legacy
of Edith Siegrist, who was a longtime educator and
librarian. This marks the second
year of financial assistance to VHS
seniors.
This year’s winners are Caitlin
Britten and Wyatt Hansen, who
were selected from a talented pool
of candidates. Caitlin has been
active in cross-country, track, choir
and school plays. She plans to
attend Western Iowa Tech in the fall
Britten
in pursuit of a medical assistant
degree.
Wyatt attended Boys’ State and is member of the
National Honor Society. His activities included Police
Explorers, Youth Trooper Academy and high school
basketball. Wyatt plans to earn a bachelors degree in
accounting with the goal of becoming a forensic
accountant.
The candidates were nominated by VHS faculty
members, who recommended many qualified
candidates. The Foundation is considering ways to
expand its scholarship awards to VHS seniors.

Hammitt named 2014 SD Direct
Support Professional of the Year
Miami, FL – On May 6, the
American Network of Community
Options and Resources (ANCOR)
recognized Molly Hammitt of
SESDAC, Inc. in Vermillion as the
2014 Direct Support Professional of
the Year for South Dakota.

dedication Molly has to support
people with disabilities and reflects
the quality of services provided by
SESDAC, Inc.,” said Gerry Tracy,
executive director. “It was very
exciting to see Molly recognized and
honored as she was presented with
her award at the 2014 ANCOR
Conference: Beyond the Envelope in
Miami.”
Direct Support Professionals
(DSPs) provide a rich mosaic of daily
support services for the many
Americans with disabilities. DSPs are
integral in helping people with
disabilities participate in their
communities and lead full and
independent lives.

play in the social and
