concern for me because
the public sees we spent
$4 million and the kids
go home and say there’s
no ceilings in the place,”
he said. “I do worry about
public perception.”
Board member Tim
Schwasinger agreed that
the scholarship deadline
might not be a concern.
“I share the same
reservations,” he said.
“Having gone through
two seniors I don’t
remember that type of
deadline or that kind of
pressure.”
Board member Dave
Stammer voiced a
personal positive outlook
that perhaps the whole
issue has been
overthought.
“We’re looking at
changing the calendar
just because of a
possibility that the
project might go longer
than what we’re
thinking,” he said. “We’re
asking for a big remodel
February 3, 2015 www.broadcasteronline.com
but we don’t know how
much is going to get
done. It might go faster
than we predicted and
have no problems. I have
full faith that Johnson
Controls can get it done.”
“The bottom line here
is the calendar is a
negotiated item,”
Fairholm said. “The
teachers were all together
and decided, against what
their desires are but
taking all facts into
account, to start at the
regular time. I don’t
know what else to say.”
Pressure to approve
the school calendar
comes from the fact that
there has to be time for
the public to call for a
vote should they wish to.
Given all the concerns
and time constraints, the
school board voted to
approve the calendar as
exists for the current
school year, though not
unanimously.
