This is the season to be spreading a lot of good cheer
Eden Hemmingson
Alcester-Hudson High School
‘Tis the season to be jolly;
tis the season to deck the
halls with holly; tis the season
to give, by golly! AlcesterHudson high school is doing
just that by spreading cheer
through the halls, the town,
and local charities.
Last year, the school
started a Character Counts
program, teaching students
the importance of kindness.
Alcester-Hudson has
continued their character
counts program with this
year’s slogan: “Be the
Change!” Every month there
is a different act of kindness.
October was
complements, the students
hung posters throughout the
halls that said “You look cool
today!”
During the month of
November, the students
posted what they were
thankful for on social media
everyday with the tag
“#AHThankfulChallenge”.
December, however, is the
month where love and giving
are meant to be spread to
everybody. For this month,
AHHS held a clothing drive.
“This was a unique way to
give to charities, we haven’t
ever had a clothing drive here
before,” said Special
Education teacher, Lynette
Busch. “I was surprised and
humbled by the turn out by
the students.”
The clothes that were
brought in were sent off to 3
different charities.
The school was
overflowing with clothing by

the end of the week. Many
students found the challenge
to be fun, and were excited to
help those in need.
“It was so great how the
students came together for
this drive,” said senior
Samantha Heiman. “I love
the feeling of giving, and I
am grateful that I can give.”
The clothing drive also
brought an early Christmas
to some of the less fortunate
families in our very town.
“Ms. Kleinhans [the
Character Counts advisor]
let me pick out some
clothing for some of the
students at the elementary
school so they could get a
little bit more for Christmas
than they might have,” said
Alcester-Hudson counselor,
Shana Doering. “It was a
wonderful drive that is going
to bring joy to many families.
I am truly proud of the
students.”
Another way students
spread cheer this year was
their deck the halls day.
Instead of the traditional
Christmas decor being
draped along the school
hallways, the students
dedicated their halls to raise
awareness for cancer. they
used green, orange, and pink
decorations, and some even
tagged #ARIYSARMY on the
hallways to support fellow
student and leukemia fighter
Ariyanna Miller.
“We need to make sure
she knows we are all
supporting her,” said
Alcester-Hudson senior,
Cheyenne Sorlie. “I think this
was a cool idea to show our
support and holiday cheer.
