10/05/2014 0:07:00--Deputies
investigated a past tense report of a
domestic assault at a residence south of
Vermillion.
10/05/2014 11:31:00--A deputy
assisted a Wakonda man with locating
his brother who had been transferred
from one assisted living facility in
another county to another and he had
lost track of him.
10/05/2014 14:02:00--A deputy
transported an inmate who was wanted
in Yankton County to the county line
to meet a Yankton County Deputy and
transfer custody.
10/05/2014 16:58:00--A deputy
responded to a report of a semi with
it's tires on fire on Highway 46 near
Beresford.
10/05/2014 18:04:00—A deputy
responded to a report from a rural
landowner who found a toy plastic jeep
dumped in the ditch. The landowner
disposed of the item.
10/05/2014 22:01:00--A deputy
responded to a report of a vehicle left
partially in the driving lane on 306th
St. The vehicle was towed due to it
being a traffic hazard.
10/06/2014 6:33:00--A deputy
responded to the jail to help restrain a
female inmate who was attempting to
strangle herself. The inmate had been
argumentative, combative and had been
spitting on officers.
10/06/2014 10:39:00--The School
Resource Officer assisted the school
truant officer by attempting to locate 2
boys who wouldn't go to school. The
boys were not located. The report will
be forwarded to the State's Attorney for
consideration of charges.
10/06/2014 18:17:00--A deputy
assisted Vermillion Police officers with
a combative subject at the emergency
room at the hospital in Vermillion.
10/07/2014 9:49:00--A deputy
transported an inmate to a dentist
appointment and then returned him to
the jail.
10/08/2014 9:45:00--The School
Resource Officer assisted court services
with encouraging a teenager to go to
school. The SRO took the student to
school.
10/08/2014 13:24:00--A school bus
driver reported a vehicle passed the bus
while the red lights were flashing. The
driver saw the license plate. Charges
are under consideration.
10/08/2014 17:58:00--A caller
reported he left a car parked at a friend's
house since July. Now the friend has
moved away and the car is gone. The
friend says it was there when he left.
The car was entered as stolen.
10/09/2014 7:55:00--Two inmates
who were sentenced to prison were
transported to the SD State Penitentiary
in Sioux Falls.
10/09/2014 21:14:00--A caller
reported a potential fight in the parking
lot at the school in Wakonda after a
volleyball game. Officers responded but
the participants had left.
10/10/2014 15:41:00--A vehicle was
stopped for failing to yield at a stop sign
in Vermillion. The driver was cited for
driving under revocation and the
passenger was arrested for outstanding
Charles Mix County warrants. The
vehicle was towed.
10/10/2014 17:54:00--A deputy
stopped a vehicle for speeding on
Burbank Road. The driver was cited
for not wearing a seatbelt.
10/10/2014 19:20:00--A deputy
stopped a car and notified the driver of
a non-functioning headlight.
10/10/2014 21:57:00--Deputies
provided assistance to a Highway Patrol
Trooper when one subject from a car
on a traffic stop ran from the car. The
traffic stop resulted in drug arrests.
10/10/2014 23:57:00--Deputies
checked on a vehicle stopped across a
rural road after seeing it driving in an
erratic manner. The driver was arrested
for DWI and cited for underage
consumption.
10/11/2014 2:07:00--While assisting
on a traffic check point, a deputy
arrested a driver for DWI.
10/11/2014 10:32:00--A deputy
received a report from a rural resident
who had been a target of a scammer
who stated he deposited money in a pay
pal account and needed fees returned
from it to complete a purchase. No
money was lost in the transaction after
the local resident recognized this as
suspicious.
10/11/2014 15:08:00--A deputy
responded to a report of a combine on
fire near Gayville.
10/11/2014 16:11:00--A deputy
investigated a report from a Wakonda
resident of a suspicious note left on her
door.
10/11/2014 19:52:00--A deputy
assisted a GFP officer with an
anonymous report of subject poaching
fish near Wakonda. The subjects were
located and were found to be in
compliance with fishing limits.
10/11/2014 21:44:00--A deputy
stopped a vehicle after observing erratic
driving causing the vehicle to drive
partially into the ditch on Highway 50.
The driver reported she had been getting
dressed while driving. There was no
other impairment found.
10/11/2014 21:54:00--A vehicle was
stopped on Highway 50 and the driver
was warned for violation of the "move
over" law requiring vehicles to move
over when passing a stopped emergency
vehicle.
10/11/2014 22:11:00--A deputy
located a car left parked on the highway
south of Vermillion. The vehicle was a
traffic hazard and was towed from the
scene.
10/11/2014 23:11:00--A vehicle was
stopped and the driver was cited for
speeding on East Cherry St. in
Vermillion.

10/06/2014 5:13:00--Officers
contacted a woman who had a warrant
for her arrest out of Clay County. When
arrested she fought with the officer and
spit on him. She was charged with
resisting arrest and assault on a Law
Enforcement Officer.
10/06/2014 6:33:00--Officers
assisted the Sheriff 's Office with an
attempted suicide in the Jail. No one
was injured.
10/06/2014 11:11:00--A car was
stopped for speeding. The driver had
an open alcohol container in the vehicle
and was cited.
10/06/2014 12:03:00--Officers were
called to a vehicle stopped on a lawn
with the driver and passenger inside.
Officer contacted the driver who was
clearly intoxicated. An unknown
controlled substance, white powder, was
found in several bindles on the driver
when he was arrested. The Driver
provided a name that turned out to be
false. He was also in violation of a
protection order. He was charged with
DWI, possession of a controlled
substance, ingestion, Violation of a
Protection order, and False
impersonation.
10/07/2014 1:09:00--Officers
contacted a man passed out on the side
of the road. He was intoxicated and
underage. He was cited and checked to
make sure he could care for himself.
10/08/2014 2:24:00--Caller reported
a group of intoxicated people who
appeared underage walking by a
business. Officers contacted the group
and three were underage and had been
drinking, they were cited.
10/08/2014 6:54:00--Officers were
notified of a man who had a warrant
out of Minnehaha County. The man
was located and arrested.
10/09/2014 0:14:00--Officers
contacted a woman drinking from a
beer can walking down the sidewalk.
She was underage and intoxicated. She
was cited.
10/09/2014 1:53:00--An officer
stopped a vehicle for making an illegal
U-Turn. Two of the passengers were
underage and had been drinking
alcohol. They were cited for minor
possession/consumption of alcohol.
10/09/2014 3:00:00--An officer
stopped a car for speeding. The driver
was intoxicated and underage and was
charged with both offenses.
10/09/2014 4:31:00--Caller reported
an unknown intoxicated man was trying
to pull their front door open. Officers
found the man in front of the door. He
was intoxicated and underage. The caller
and her roommates found the door's
locking mechanism had been damaged
by the man trying to get into their
residence. The man was charged with
underage, and charges of disorderly
conduct and vandalism were referred
to the States Attorney.
10/10/2014 2:47:00--An officer
stopped a vehicle for failing to stop at a
stop sign. The driver was underage and
had been drinking. The driver was
charge with minor consumption of
alcohol and underage DWI.
10/10/2014 16:28:00--Complainant
reported finding a 5 year old boy
unattended. Officers responded and
attempted to find the boy's parents or
guardian without success. The
Department of Social Services took
custody of the boy.
10/10/2014 20:06:00--Bike officers
contacted a group of men walking down
the road with open alcohol containers.
Three men were cited for open
container.
10/10/2014 20:25:00--Bike officers
contacted a group of women walking
down the road with open beer cans.
They were cited for open container.
10/10/2014 22:40:00--While
investigating a party with underage
alcohol consumption and illegal alcohol
sales, the detectives discovered a large
amount of marijuana.
Under
investigation.
10/11/2014 1:53:00--Detectives
investigated a report of a house party
that was selling alcohol. Using
undercover operatives the detectives
purchased alcohol at the house party.
Officers responded to the house party
and stopped the activity. Charges of
underage consumption, furnishing
alcohol to a minor and selling alcohol
without a license will be referred to the
State's Attorney.
10/11/2014 2:06:00--An officer
stopped a vehicle for erratic driving.
The odor of marijuana resulted in a
search and the discovery of marijuana
and a smoking paraphernalia. The
driver admitted to recently smoking and
failed field sobriety tests. He was arrested
for DWI and possession of marijuana.
10/11/2014 15:03:00--An officer
stopped two women crossing the road
with beer cans in their hands. The
cans were open, one of the women
was under age, both were cited for the
open containers the underage woman
was cited for underage
possession/consumption.
10/11/2014 19:23:00--A local
business called and reported they had
caught a woman shoplifting. Officers
responded and investigation resulted in
the woman being arrested and charged
with theft.
10/11/2014 20:33:00--Bike officers
contact woman walking with 1/2 a bottle
of spirits. Cited for open container.
10/11/2014 21:08:00--An officer
contacted a man walking with an open
beer can and a case of beer. He was
cited for the open container.
10/11/2014 22:03:00--A local bar
called after a man became hostile after
being cut off. Officers arrived as friends
of the man were pulling him outside.
The man was warned not to return to
the bar.
10/11/2014 22:17:00--A man with
an open beer can was contacted by an
officer. The man tried to run but was
quickly caught. He was cited for fail to
obey and open container.
10/11/2014 22:33:00--Bike officers
contacted three men drinking from
alcohol containers on the sidewalk. All
three were underage and were cited.
10/11/2014 22:42:00--An officer
stopped a vehicle for improper lane
travel. The driver was intoxicated and
was arrested for DWI.
10/11/2014 23:35:00--Bike officers
contacted two people walking on the
side walk with open containers of
alcohol. Both were underage and were
cited.
