Broadcaster Press 7 June 14, 2016 www.broadcasteronline.com Share Lunch to Fight Hunger June 13-17 As many families are busy with vacations and summertime fun, many more families in South Dakota will struggle to put meals on their table this summer. Share Lunch to Fight Hunger is a new initiative for Feeding South Dakota aimed at raising awareness and funding for the issue of hunger during the summer. Individuals are encouraged to donate the cost of a lunch out one day during June 13-17, to “Share Lunch” with those served by Feeding South Dakota. The cost of one $10 lunch will provide 50 meals to individuals in need. Summer can be a difficult time for families living on a tight budget. Grocery bills go up because parents cannot rely on school breakfast and lunch programs and many parents incur higher costs for additional childcare. “One in eight people in South Dakota struggle with hunger and even more staggering is that one in every five children do not know where their next meal will come from. Feeding South Dakota is eager to engage our communities this summer as we continue to fight to solve this issue,” said Matt Gassen, CEO of Feeding South Dakota. “Hunger is an issue that effects everyone – our child’s classmate, an office coworker or a neighbor down the street.” Feeding South Dakota is partnering with businesses across the state to create engaging ways for employees to get involved. “Simple steps can create a huge impact,” said Meredith Parrott, Gift Processing Coordinator of Feeding South Dakota. “People don’t always know that the need is right here in our community, that it’s our neighbors who are struggling. Something simple, like donating the cost of a lunch, can help so many people.” For more information, visit http:// www.feedingsouthdakota.org/help/ share-lunch-fight-hunger/ What everyone is reading.
