likely fill the number two slot
with Moran occupying number one. She also traveled to
the state tournament in Hot
Springs as an alternate.
“Overall, (the season) was
pretty much where I thought
I was going to end up,” she
said.
After a break from golf
over the winter months,
COACH: Jay Weber
ASSISTANT: Jeff Haenfler
these first few practices have
been focuses on getting back
into the rhythm of golf.
“Mainly (practice is) just
about loosening up because
a lot of the girls haven’t hit
balls all winter, so just kind of
getting back into a rhythm,”
Carr said.
She added that another
positive outlook on the season is the girls’ have a good
mental game and can focus
without getting caught up in
scores or standings.
As the lone veteran senior,
Moran is hoping to just lead

by example and make sure
the team continues to have
fun without getting stressed
over scores.
“I am hoping I can just
show the girls that golf is a
fun game and you can have
fun and play well at the same
time and it’s a great thing
to be a part of,” Moran said.
“Even if you do struggle you
can still play well and score is
not everything, you do want
to have fun.”
That is also the message
Hogan has been relaying to
his players.

“He is really telling us
to have fun because we are
obviously not playing our
best right now, so it is kind of
frustrating just because we
are still a little rusty,” Moran
said. “He says as long as you
are having fun and working
hard you are going to get to
where you want to be.”
In terms of playing, Moran
wants to finish her career
with the team qualifying
for the state tournament in
June in Hartford and seeing
a higher individual placement. Girls’ golf powerhouse

Parkston graduated it’s two
top players, who played
one-two in the last two state
meets, opening up the doors
for everyone to move up in
placement.
“Having them gone opens
up higher placing for everybody, so it will be different,”
Moran said.
Both players know that
competing at the state tournament will be difficult just
in terms of the course. West
Central will host the tournament at the Central Valley
Golf Club in Hartford.
“I know if we do make it to
the state tournament, Hartford does have a very tough
course,” Moran said. “That
will be a good test for us.”
Vermillion will have the
chance to compete on the
same course twice prior at
the West Central Invite and
the Dakota XII Conference
tournament.
The season opens on April
11 with a dual against Madison at the Bluffs Golf Course
in Vermillion and concludes
June 5-6 in Hartford.
We’re on
your care.
