CPR Program
In 2018, the Vermillion Clay County EMS Association
(VCCEMS) provided CPR for 463 community members,
making Vermillion a safer place. Jolley Elementary
School faculty and staff are some of the community
members who received CPR training from VCCEMS in the
past, and they used their skills to save a life. When an
individual collapsed at the school in the fall of 2018, personnel responded quickly and called 911, administered
CPR, and used the AED machine. Those who took action
were awarded the American Heart Association Heart
Saver Hero Award.
The VCCEMS Association hopes to make Vermillion
even safer by offering certification programs to more
local businesses, organizations, and schools in the
future. To view and register for upcoming Vermillion CPR
courses, please visit www.vermillioncpr.eventbrite.com.

“I became an EMT to give back to the community
that took me in. Moving to Vermillion for school
was a big change, and the people of Vermillion
made it so much easier for me. I will always remember the moments I experienced while serving this
area and what I have learned here.”
Jena Stewart, EMT
“I became an EMT because my dad’s work as a
paramedic inspired me to have a love for serving
others, which is my favorite part of this job.
Maria Glover, EMT
“Initially, as many do, I became a paramedic
because of the adrenaline rush and to carry on a
family tradition. However, now I enjoy being a paramedic because I like to serve as a problem solver
during people’s most stressful situations. The ability to make a significant difference in the wellbeing
of others is the ultimate feeling of satisfaction.
