Broadcaster Press 05 June 10, 2014 www.broadcasteronline.com 1490 CLAY COUNTY SHERIFF’S PRESS BRIEFING 05/25/14 10:35 – A deputy received a report of a dog biting a woman north of Vermillion. 05/25/14 14:08 – A deputy responded to a report of a vehicle that had slid off the road on Highway 50 near Meckling. The vehicle did not have any damage so no accident report was necessary. 05/25/14 16:44 – A deputy responded along with EMS to a medical emergency in Burbank. 05/25/14 22:34 – A deputy found a broken highway sign at a median crossover on Highway 50. A turning vehicle had apparently damaged it. The information was forwarded to the Dept. of Transportation office. 05/26/14 13:20 – A caller reported two vehicles driving erratically westbound from Meckling. A deputy attempted to locate the vehicles but they were out of the area. The report was forwarded to Yankton County. 05/26/14 16:33 – A deputy investigated the theft of trees intended to be used for lumber near Meckling. 05/26/14 20:49 – Multiple calls were received regarding a woman walking on Timber Road in the dark. A deputy located the woman who was out for a walk. Due to limited visibility, the woman was given a ride to a safe place to walk in Vermillion. 05/27/14 09:34 – A deputy assisted a court services officer with picking up a delinquent juvenile and bringing him in to submit a required urinalysis for drug testing. 05/27/14 10:52 – An inmate was transported to a doctor appointment and then returned to the jail. 05/27/14 15:30 – A caller reported his neighbor’s dog strayed to his property west of Wakonda and was harassing livestock and acting in a menacing manner toward him. The dog’s owner came and picked up the dog. There had been a previous similar report about the same dog. A deputy met with the dog’s owner and gave him a notice that the dog is required to be confined as a vicious animal. 05/28/14 13:33 – An inmate was transported to a doctor appointment and then returned to the jail. 05/28/14 16:50 – A caller reported tire debris on Highway 19 north of Vermillion. A deputy responded and removed the debris from the road. 05/29/14 07:50 – A deputy responded along with EMS to a medical emergency at a rural residence. Prior to arrival the patient had already left on her own. 05/29/14 13:28 – An inmate was transported from the Union County Jail to the Clay County Jail for a court appearance and then returned to the Union County Jail. 05/29/14 17:40 – Units responded to a rural residence where it was reported a propane tank was leaking. It was found that the tank was venting excess pressure due to the heat. Fire units responded and cooled the tank with water. 05/29/14 18:39 – A deputy assisted Vermillion Police Officers with the investigation of a domestic assault in Vermillion. 05/30/14 21:35 – A deputy responded to a report of cattle loose south of Irene. 05/30/14 22:52 – Deputies observed a large brush fire near a rural residence. They informed the property owner who said the fire must have flared up from a previous controlled fire. The fire was put out by fire units. 05/31/14 05:19 – A deputy investigated a car/deer crash on Highway 50 near Meckling. 05/31/14 10:13 – A deputy responded to a report of cows out of a pasture south of Irene. 05/31/14 10:25 – A deputy provided traffic control assistance for a 5K run near the Westreville area. 05/31/14 14:16 – A deputy responded along with a Highway Patrol Trooper to an injury motorcycle accident near Burbank. 05/31/14 22:21 – A vehicle was stopped on Highway 50 and the driver was notified of a nonfunctioning headlight.
