CLAY COUNTY SHERIFF’S PRESS BRIEFING
05/25/14 10:35 – A
deputy received a report of a
dog biting a woman north
of Vermillion.
05/25/14 14:08 – A
deputy responded to a

vehicle did not have any
damage so no accident
report was necessary.

deputy responded along
with EMS to a medical
emergency in Burbank.
05/25/14 22:34 – A
deputy found a broken
highway sign at a median
crossover on Highway 50. A
turning vehicle had
apparently damaged it. The
information was forwarded
to the Dept. of
Transportation office.
05/26/14 13:20 – A caller
reported two vehicles
driving erratically
westbound from Meckling.
A deputy attempted to

of trees intended to be used
for lumber near Meckling.
05/26/14 20:49 –
Multiple calls were received
regarding a woman walking
on Timber Road in the dark.
A deputy located the
woman who was out for a
walk. Due to limited
visibility, the woman was
given a ride to a safe place to
walk in Vermillion.
05/27/14 09:34 – A
deputy assisted a court
services officer with picking
up a delinquent juvenile and
bringing him in to submit a
required urinalysis for drug
testing.
05/27/14 10:52 – An
inmate was transported to a
doctor appointment and
then returned to the jail.
05/27/14 15:30 – A caller
reported his neighbor’s dog
strayed to his property west
of Wakonda and was
harassing livestock and
acting in a menacing
manner toward him. The
dog’s owner came and
picked up the dog. There
had been a previous similar
report about the same dog.
A deputy met with the dog’s
owner and gave him a
notice that the dog is
required to be confined as a
vicious animal.
05/28/14 13:33 – An
inmate was transported to a
doctor appointment and
then returned to the jail.
05/28/14 16:50 – A caller
reported tire debris on
Highway 19 north of
Vermillion. A deputy
responded and removed the
debris from the road.
05/29/14 07:50 – A
deputy responded along
with EMS to a medical
emergency at a rural
residence. Prior to arrival
the patient had already left
on her own.
05/29/14 13:28 – An
inmate was transported
from the Union County Jail
to the Clay County Jail for a
court appearance and then
returned to the Union
County Jail.
05/29/14 17:40 – Units
responded to a rural
residence where it was
reported a propane tank was
leaking. It was found that
the tank was venting excess
pressure due to the heat.
Fire units responded and
cooled the tank with water.

deputy assisted Vermillion
Police Officers with the
investigation of a domestic
assault in Vermillion.

deputy responded to a
report of cattle loose south
of Irene.
05/30/14 22:52 –
Deputies observed a large
brush fire near a rural
residence. They informed
the property owner who
said the fire must have flared
up from a previous
controlled fire. The fire was
put out by fire units.
05/31/14 05:19 – A
deputy investigated a
car/deer crash on Highway
50 near Meckling.
