The son later returned and had been drinking, he was already on probation and the information was forwarded to his court services officer. 06/22/14 16:01 – Caller reported a car driving erratically, officers responded, located the vehicle and witnessed it driving erratically. The car was stopped the driver was intoxicated and was arrested for DWI. 06/23/14 11:14 – Complainant reported a sex crime. Under investigation. 06/23/14 22:54 – Officers saw a vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign and then turn and saw the driver actively using a cell phone. The vehicle was stopped and the driver admitted to be “blogging” on his phone while driving. The driver was cited. 06/23/14 23:59 – An officer stopped a vehicle for failing to stop for a stop sign. The driver did not have a license or insurance. Additionally, the driver had a warrant out of Minnehaha County for failure to have insurance. The driver was arrested and the vehicle was turned over to a valid driver. 06/24/14 05:47 – Officers stopped a vehicle for doing 70 in a 55 zone. The driver had two arrest warrants out of Minnehaha County. The driver was arrested and the vehicle impounded. 06/24/14 13:29 – Complainant reported that she thinks an acquaintance stole checks from a closed account of her and wrote them in her name. Under investigation. 06/25/14 00:56 – Caller reported she had heard unexplained noises from her kitchen. Officers searched the residence but found nothing amiss. 06/25/14 02:06 – Officers stopped a vehicle for failing to stop before entering a roadway. The driver’s privilege to drive was suspended. The driver was cited and the passenger drove the vehicle. 06/27/14 06:35 – Complainant reported being assaulted by a neighbor. Investigation revealed the neighbor was hearing voices and believed his neighbor was stalking him and bullying him over the Internet. Officers arranged for mental health assessment to occur. 06/27/14 08:38 – Officers provided a funeral escort. 06/27/14 20:10 – An officer stopped a vehicle for running a red light. The driver was revoked and was cited. 06/27/14 22:23 – Officers received multiple reports of a vehicle driving erratically and almost causing accidents. Officers found the vehicle and witnessed it swerving and stopped it. The driver was intoxicated and was arrested. This was the drivers fourth DWI, a portable breath test showed a breath alcohol of .239. 06/28/14 00:28 – An officer stopped a group of men walking on the sidewalk after seeing one was drinking from an open alcoholic beverage. The group of four men had all been drinking and were underage. They were cited. 06/28/14 01:43 – An officer stopped a vehicle for a lighting violation. The driver smelled of alcohol and the officer saw a marijuana pipe in the vehicle. The driver was arrested and the passengers were also charged with minor possession of alcohol, possession of marijuana and paraphernalia, open alcohol container in vehicle, and ingestion. 06/28/14 06:42 – Caller stated she was having a heart attack. Officers responded and assisted until the ambulance arrived. 06/28/14 08:55 – An officer stopped with a vehicle that had a flat tire. The officer started the process of changing the tire and a motorist stopped with a better jack to assist. While they were working the driver’s grandson arrived. The tire was changed. 06/28/14 16:59 – While a detective was at a residence conducting a follow up he smelled marijuana. The resident turned over marijuana, paraphernalia and admitted to smoking it. She was arrested. 06/28/14 18:01 – Subject was arrested for using excessive amounts of prescription drugs in violation of probation conditions. 06/28/14 22:19 – Officer responded to a compliant of fireworks being discharged. The offending party was contacted and admitted to setting off fireworks, they said they did not know there was an ordinance against setting off fireworks. They agreed to stop and were warned. 06/28/14 23:25 – Complainant reported getting an anonymous death threat. Under investigation. Total Records: 21 Firsick named Scholar-Athlete of the Year The University of South Dakota’s NCAA national champion pole vaulter Bethany (Buell) Firsick has been named The Summit League Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year in a vote by the league’s faculty athletic representatives and announced Monday. The Award is the most prestigious individual honor given by the league. “What an honor,” said Firsick. “It is the perfect way to cap off what has been such a fun and exciting career at USD.” Firsick, a four-time first-team AllAmerican (twice indoor, twice outdoor), is South Dakota’s first female Scholar-Athlete of the Year honoree and the second Coyote in as many years to earn the distinction. Distance runner Jeff Mettler won the men’s award last summer. Firsick, a native of Fenton, MO, graduated in May with a 3.97 grade point average as a Firsick psychology major. She was the national pole vault champion at the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Championships after tying a championship record height of 14’7.50” (4.45m). It was one of four top-six finishes at a national meet for Firsick, who also placed third, fourth and sixth.
