VERMILLION POLICE DEPARTMENT PRESS BRIEFING
07/21/14 09:45 –
Officers responded to a
residence where the
roommates had several
ongoing disputes and
regularly called police. This
time one resident accused
the other of stealing her
phone. Officers called the
phone and found it in a
couch cushion near where
the caller had last seen her
phone.
07/21/14 10:36 –
Officers responded to a
parking complaint and
found two subjects
smoking marijuana. The
subjects were charged.
07/21/14 22:16 –
Officers received an
anonymous report
regarding drug use.
07/22/14 13:12 – Caller
reported a friend had
borrowed her vehicle and
taken it to Yankton and had
not returned it as agreed.
Under investigation.
07/23/14 00:52 – A local
bar called requested help
with a patron who was
damaging property and
threatening to assault
others. On arrival, officers
were investigating with the
suspect started trying to
damage the patrol vehicle.
Officers had to fight with
the man after he was
arrested and transported
him to the jail. He was
charged with trespass,
assault on officers,
disorderly conduct and
resisting arrest.
07/23/14 15:34 – Fraud
Alert: Caller received a
phone call claiming the
caller had won $9,200.00.
The caller was directed to
send a $200 Wal-Mart
Prepaid card and the prize
would be paid.
07/23/14 19:59 – Caller
requested advice and
assistance regarding a
dispute with the father of
her child that had resulted
in threats against her
family. Officers found no
evidence the threats were
being acted on.
07/23/14 20:52 –
Officers were called to a
verbal dispute between
roommates. The dispute
was over the use and
volume on the
entertainment system.
Officers mediated a
resolution.
07/24/14 11:58 – A local
business turned over a
counterfeit $100 bill.
07/24/14 13:39 –
Officers investigated a
report of a man who had
been arrested on a warrant
and claimed it was his
brother who had
committed the DWI for
which the warrant was
issued. Investigation
revealed that the suspect
had used his brother’s
information when he was
arrested. Charges were
referred to the state’s
attorney and the innocent
brother was released.
07/24/14 23:42 – Caller
reported a dispute with her
boyfriend. Officers
responded and investigated
and found both parties
were angry and had not
been able to communicate
with each other. Officers
enabled them to speak
their mind one at a time,
and the two resolved their
differences. No crime had
occurred.
07/25/14 21:49 – Caller
reported two women
fighting in a nearby
residence. Officers
responded and found the
women in the residence but
they did not appear to have
been fighting and denied any
fight had occurred.
07/25/14 22:57 –
Officers conducted a
curfew check of a person
on probation with the
Yankton Drug Court.
Nothing was found amiss.
07/25/14 23:48 – Caller
reported hearing a fight at a
residence. Officers
responded and contacted the
occupant of the residence
and said there had been an
argument about an hour
before regarding eating
habits between a niece and
her aunt, but no violence
had occurred. No crime had
occurred.
07/26/14 01:16 – Caller
reported being assaulted at
a party. Investigation
revealed that some type of
fight had occurred at a
party. The caller and
suspect had both been
drinking and were
underage. Both were cited.
Investigation continues.
07/26/14 02:12 – Caller
reported a man had made a
veiled threat and he was
afraid to walk home.
Officers investigated and
determined no crime had
occurred. Parties were
identified and officers
insured the caller made it
home without incident.
07/26/14 20:30 –

being threatened regarding
a dispute between
roommates. Officers
mediated the dispute and
no one was injured.
07/26/14 22:56 –
Officers stopped a vehicle
for a broken taillight. The
driver was not licensed and
the vehicle did not have
insurance. The driver was
charged and the vehicle
towed.
