T
he Vermillion High School
show choir, Rhythm in Red,
experienced a star-struck start
to their 2019 season on January 26th.
Taylor Tarr, a senior Rhythm
in Red performer, said, ÒThanks to
everyoneÕs hard work, weÕve had the
strongest opening performance in
years. I really loved our show this year
and IÕm so excited to see what we can
accomplish by the end of the season.Ó
Rhythm in Red attended
Roosevelt High SchoolÕs Executive
Showcase in Sioux Falls, SD. VHS senior performer Nicole Hauck commented, ÒI felt
like our show went good. During dress rehearsal
on Friday, everyone was feeling a little anxious
about our performance on Saturday; we ended up
doing well.Ó Doing well is certainly the way to
describe it. Rhythm in Red took home third place
in their division, and Annika Holdhusen, a VHS
sophomore, won the separate solo competition.
Abby Johnson, VHS junior, gave the following
reaction, ÒWe may have gotten third in our divi-

The Importance of
BY LILLIAN MOCKLER
R
andom Acts of Kindness
Enthusiasts, also known
as R.A.K.E, does everything
it can to spread kindness. Vermillion High School has many
clubs and groups but this club
stands out. R.A.K.E. finds
pride in making people feel
good about themselves and
spreading positivity to everybody.
As you walk through
the halls at VHS, you will see
posters on lockers wishing
people a ÒHappy Birthday!Ó
This is done by R.A.K.E. This
makes everybody feel special
about themselves on their day.
This is one of the things the
people of R.A.K.E, a random
act of simple and meaningful
kindness.
R.A.K.E also holds bake sales
to fundraise for supplies, birthday signs and other things
they do around the school and
community. The club has a
compliment box in the library
where students can write compliments to anybody at any
time. They are then given out
to make people happy. A freshman in R.A.K.E, Mya DeJong,
said, ÒR.A.K.E is fun because
it makes me feel a part of the
school. I enjoy being in clubs
and this is one of my favorites;
I get to spread some kindness.Ó
She feels R.A.K.E gives her
the chance to speak up about
kindness in our school.
R.A.K.E. adds positivity and
good will to the school and
teaches our students to be kind
to one another. This club promotes Ôput-upsÕ, and not ÔputdownsÕ with an aim to spread
kindness around the whole
community.
