relevant teaching message
from LifeChurch.tv?s senior

Cameron Walter Benefit
September 28th at THE EAGLES starting at 5:00 pm
Dinner & Bake Sale - 5pm to 7pm | Live Auction - 7pm
Most 2-year olds spend their day playing with their friends and
discovering the world around them. Cameron Walter, an active 2
year old from Vermillion, spends most of her days receiving chemo
and recovering from the side effects of the treatment.
On June 1st, Cameron was a normal 2 year old. She had recently
completed a kids race wearing her pink princess cowboy boots.
The next day, she woke up feeling a little sick. By Monday, she was
running a fever so her mother, Katie Walter, decided a visit to the
clinic was in order. Dr. Searcy examined her for strep and noticed her left lung didn’t sound quite
normal. An X-ray was taken to check for pneumonia, but instead showed a mass in her chest.
Cameron was taken to Sanford’s Children Hospital (a.k.a. The Castle) and was diagnosed with an
anterior mediastina tumor sitting behind her sternum. Further testing determined that Cameron had
Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
She has been undergoing chemotherapy treatments along with blood transfusions and platelet
infusions. Cameron is currently fighting a virus that has depleted her ANC count. Her mother Katie
Walter, a physical therapist at Sanford Vermillion Medical Center, has been by her side through this entire
journey. “We continue to wait and pray”, says her mother Katie. Cameron also has a big sister, Kassie,
who is 4. They are members at St Agnes Parish and live in Vermillion. Her father Derrick lives in
Bridgewater and farms.
A benefit will be held on Sept 28th at the Eagles Club in Vermillion, SD for Cameron and her family. Hayrides will be
available starting at 4:30 pm with a dinner, bake sale, and silent auction starting at 5:00 pm. A Live Auction with
Gary Madsen will begin at 7:00 pm.
Special thanks to the meal donation from Sanford Vermillion, financial donations from Thrivent and
Modern Woodman, hayrides by Heine Farms, auction donations from Midwest Ready Mix, USD Athletics,
Best Western, Raziels, Coyote Twin/Vermillion Theatre, Pump ‘n Stuff, Holiday Inn, Taco Johns, Cherry
Street Grille, Howlers, and numerous Vermillion businesses to be mentioned at the benefit.
If you are unable to attend the benefit and wish to make a donation, please contact Lisa Terwilliger at
