The annual Lawrence Brothers Science Camp was held July 13-18 for students entering seventh, eighth and ninth grades, at which time they took part in activities under the overall theme, “Light and Vision.” “What we’re hoping for is continued interest in science,” said camp director Barb Goodman. “The reason why there aren’t any requirements for the camp is we freely give scholarships, so whereas many camps you go to you have to be rich or really, really smart to go, we just want kids that are interested in science, and it doesn’t matter whether they can afford it or not.” To foster those interests, the students performed a number of different activities, during which they learned about the physiology of vision, eye tracking, color blindness, spectroscopy and lasers. They also designed robots, had a video conference about dark matter with the Sanford Underground Science Lab and dissected cow eyes.
